Lautenberg, Menendez and Pallone visit Sandy Hook, vow to fight for lab
U. S. Senators Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez, along with Congressman Frank Pallone held a press conference at Sandy Hook yesterday to let the public know about their efforts to keep the James J. Howard Marine Laboratory from being shuttered due to budget constraints at NOAA.
Let’s hope they are more successful than they were with Fort Monmouth.
Yes Art, I guess that means the lab is gone, considering Pallone’s efforts to save Fort Monmouth. Nothing more than election year posturing
Can any of the elected officials from my party tell me why none of them where there. Not our Senate candidate or either congressional candidate or assemblymen or Freeholders? Come on guys wake up!
in the past, many Dems have done things on Thursdays, knowing full well that our ( largely, or all- Rep.) Freeholders have their regular Board meetings, that day..the county electeds were busy from early am til around 9pm, yesterday..or, perhaps those D’s advance people didn’t “think” to invite them?.. we all know there are many politicians who do not want to share any kind of “photo op” with others, especially any not of their own party!!..
Good Point TR
former US Sen. Bill Bradley showed up every re-election year, to remember how to walk the beaches, we’ve seen this: they are especially good at hitting the Shore area, which is beloved by their residents/voters, who continue to put up with their high taxes and cost of living, to be able to live here.. and, thanks to Frankie, the gates are now locked at the Fort, after he “saved” it, every two years, of course, for around 2 decades.. so, this year, they had to go find a different background- they are so predictable and lame!..( we won’t see them again til the next “even” election year, after the dopes likely re-elect them, again proving that this strategy obviously works!)
our electeds from introducing/passing a measure/earmark/law in either the State or Congress to try and save something determined of value, ( although am tired of things named for Dems, this one is for Pallone’s predessor)..but, we also know that: 1.), it isn’t a priority for many not in this area/district, and 2.),any “R” bill will never be signed by Nobama, and, in NJ’s legis., it will only happen if it puts Dem union workers to work, thereby ensuring continuing Dem union support.. think politically, here, everything is political!..
This is an issue that is important to the whole County. Not only is research done there that impacts the fishing industry but it is a valuable resource for the County run Marine Academy of Science and Technology one of the five speciality highschools run by the County. The MAST High School is next door to the Lab. I would urge our Freeholders and Legislators to start paying attention to this issue right away.
We have got to stop bleeding science and technology resources if we want to be more then a NYC bedroom community.
There also should have been representatives from MAST present and they were not.
Nobody is happy about the loss of the Fort but as long as the Army/DOD was going to supply BRAC with false/incorrect information and as long as BRAC was going to believe that false information in spite of the fact that the Save The Fort Group was telling BRAC the figures were wrong…..I don’t think there is much more anyone could do. It would be nice to find out if the Army/DOD intentionally provided false information to get a predetermined outcome and if so, who directed them to provide that false information.
It is not hard to figure out what happened with Fort Monmouth. Even though the process was “Non-political” red states in the south and west seemed to do a lot better then blue states in thye Northeast.
