Sue Kiley to seek second term on Monmouth Board of Commissioners
Sue Kiley, Deputy Director of the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners (formerly known as Freeholders), is running for a second term.
The former Hazlet Mayor announced her reelection campaign on Monday with a fundraising appeal which also acknowledged the anniversary of her 29th birthday.
The liaison to the County Human Services Department, Kiley launched Monmouth ACTS, a public-private partnership which facilitates the delivery of government and non-profit services in mental health, addiction, aging, housing, childcare, transportation and much more during her first year in office. Monmouth ACTS has been at the forefront of delivering healthcare and financial recovery resources needed by County residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kiley’s Democrat opponent is likely to be long time political operative Mike Beson of Ocean Township. The Chairman of the Ocean Township Democrats, Beson served as Mayor of Neptune Township and as a member of the Ocean Township Board of Education. He has strong ties to Congressman Frank Pallone and Governor Phil Murphy.
Murphy nominated Beson to the Board of NJ Transit in 2018 but withdrew the nomination in 2020 shortly before his confirmation hearing in the Senate, ostensibly because Beson doesn’t ride a bus.
In December, Murphy nominated Beson to the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. That nomination is pending Senate confirmation.
