Republican Assembly candidates condemn Murphy’s budget and tax hikes

Matt Woolley and Mike Amoroso, the presumptive Republican nominees for Assembly in the 11th legislative district denounced Governor Murphy’s “reckless state budget proposal”in a statement released on Tuesday evening.

“Despite Governor Murphy’s characterization, there is nothing ‘responsible’ or ‘fair’ about his budget proposal. His irresponsible plan will continue to force residents to flee from New Jersey to low-cost states, amplifying the financial burden for those who remain and already struggle to live here,” said Woolley, 29, of Ocean Township. “$1.2 billion in new spending, in addition to last year’s $2.7 billion budget increase, only hurts the state’s middle class.”

“New Jersey taxpayers should be very worried today,” said Amoroso, 50, the President of the Freehold Township Board of Education. “Instead of adding more taxes on the backs of hardworking residents, our leadership in Trenton needs new, creative talent to finally work toward solving the current tax and spend frenzy.”

The running mates who are expected to receive the formal endorsement of the Monmouth County Republican Committee on Saturday morning during a convention at iPlayAmerica in Freehold Township, noted that Murphy’s proposed raising State spending by 11% for the first two years of his term. They pledge to bring sensible solutions to the legislature and rally against the unreasonable, unaffordable policies that are harming New Jerseyans.

A 2012 graduate of Fairfield University with a degree in Politics and New Media Television, Woolley has been by SportsNet New York as a technician and robotic camera operator since 2013.   He worked in Government Affairs for a Fortune 50 media company for two years and on the legislative staff of Assemblyman Sean Kean for three years.

“We must vastly improve the economic factors that are sending LD11 residents packing. Millennials, senior citizens and families – especially those that rely on a single income – are moving out of state at an alarming rate simply because they cannot afford to live here,” said Woolley.  “Born in Monmouth County, I hope to live here for the rest of my life, but action needs to be taken to reduce the out-of-control costs imposed on residents. If elected, I will advocate for policies that create a continuum of affordability for residents at all stages of life and income levels in LD11 and across New Jersey.”

Amoroso has been a member of the Freehold Township Board of Education since 2011.  He is President of the Board and serves on the Finance/Facilities/Transportation Committee.  He holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette College and an MS in Sofware Engineering from Monmouth University.  Since 2001 he has been President of Amoroso Construction Inc, a Freehold based firm that specializes in the design and installation of kitchens, offices, bars, entertainment centers and cabinetry. Mike and his wife Maria have three daughters.

Wooley and Amoroso as seeking to replace Murphy Democrats Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey as the LD 11 representatives in the Assembly.

The 11th distirct includes Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Colts Neck, Deal Eatontown , Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Interlaken Borough, Loch Arbour Village, Long Branch City, Neptune City, Neptune Township, Ocean Township, Red Bank, Shrewsbury Borough, Shrewsbury Township, Tinton Falls, and West Long Branch.

    Houghtaling & Downey voted to send millions of school aid out of LD 11 towns, including Houghtalings own home town of Neptune.

    Neptune alone is slated to lose over $12 MILLION over 9 years, raising school taxes.

    LD 11 Towns? Remember to blame that on the Democrats.

    there’s no rhyme or reason to those cuts. Some districts are reliably Dem so they got rewarded with more, while other districts that are just as reliably Dem got cut.( taken for granted?) whatever, education, as most things, costs way too much in NJ.

    They only problem that may arise with Mike Amoroso, is his approving and not voting against giving the Freehold Twp. superintendent an additional $24000.00 over and above his salary of $165,000.00.

    I am well aware of the “Merit Raises” given to these superintendent’s as a way to circumvent Christie’s cap on their pay.

    But $24,000.00 for already doing his job???

    Abbott districts may not exist by that name, but there are still a handful getting a horribly disproportionate amount of funding at the expensive Suburban districts, with little results to show for it

    Freehold Twp Superintendent supported Mr Amoroso in his candidacies for Board of Education and is a Republican. I don’t blame Mr Amoroso at all for helping out a constituent where he could.

    Abbott districts do exist, in fact there are 31 of them, however they aren’t called “Abbott” anymore they have another name “SDA Districts”

    You know, because everything is offensive these days, so Abbott is offensive.
