Mary Pat Christie for Congress? From the 11th or the 3rd district?

Former Governor Chris Christie floated the idea of his wife, Mary Pat Christie, running for Congress in the 11th district next year as a challenger to freshman Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, according to a report at NewJerseyGlobe.

Sherrill, who flipped the Republican 11th district convincingly with a 57%-42%  victory over Assemblyman Jay Webber, and raised a gazillion dollars to do it, will be tough to beat in 2020.

Mary Pat would have a much easier race against 3rd district freshman Congressman Andy Kim who barely beat Tom MacArthur last year.   The Chrisites own a house in Bay Head, in addition to their home in Mendam.  MacArthur relocated to Ocean County from Morris County to run for the seat after Jon Runyan retired in 2014.

Christie was speaking at a book signing at The Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University.

“Listen, the state would be incredibly lucky if Mary Pat Christie would run for office,” Christie said.  “I’ve been trying to convince her that maybe she should run for Congress.  I think she would be fabulous.”

He said the former First Lady would make a strong candidate.

“She’s learned a heck of a lot watching all my mistakes and she wouldn’t repeat them, which is really nice,” said Christie.  “Anybody who’s met Mary Pat knows that she’s significantly more charming and better looking than me, so she’s got all the elements of a candidate.”

The former first lady is retired from her Wall Street career. In his book, Let Me Finish, the former governor said that Mary Pat does not want to move to Washington.

really? What makes anyone think our organizations should/ could successfully, elect another Christie? That’s the problem with big egos: they just think/ assume everyone thinks they are as great as they think they are. I can hear the opposition now: about her also being on the beach that day, what a large salary she makes, etc.. not advisable, imho..

Your comment about big egos also applies to Serena Dimaso, Saun Golden, and Declan O’Scanlon. We need better candidates, ones that really represent the people and not themselves.

they win, and haven’t taken the party down with them..

better candidates, have them step forward.. I personally prefer to let winners stay in place, and concentrate on taking more incumbent Dems out of office.

It certainly takes a big ego to run for office, what with people like yourself tearing good people down.

Now, tell us when they did NOT represent the people. I haven’t see such. Remember irrefutable facts, not opinions matter

    @ Difference And @ If

    You both nailed it.

I don’t know her well except as the fat man’s wife. Where does she live? Aside from her being Chris Christie’s wife
What are her qualifications? The further south he runs the better her chances
Speaking for myself I would never vote for her. One Christie is more than enough for me!
