Republicans Urging Guadagno To Run For Assembly

Former Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno today said Republicans have asked her to run for State Assembly in the 13th legislative district.
So far, Guadagno has politely turned down the overtures, citing family issues and her commitment to her job as a partner as at the Connell Foley law firm. “Too many non billable hours,” she said in a text when MMM raised the issue with her last month, “Thank you for thinking of me, but the timing is not good for me or my family.” She also said she would run if she won the lottery.
Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, Guadagno’s would be running mate in LD 13, told MMM that she urged the former Monmouth County Sheriff to join the ticket last October when Assemblywoman Amy Handlin announced that she would not seek another term in 2019.
“It would be wonderful to serve with Kim,” DiMaso said, “Her presence on the campaign trail and in the Assembly would immediately magnify the opposition voices to the Murphy Democrat agenda. Serving in the legislature would give her a record separate from the shadow of Chris Christie and position her well for another run for governor.”
LD 13 Senator Declan O’Scanlon said that he was not behind the emerging draft Guadagno movement, but that he would welcome Kim as partner in the district legislative delegation. “Kim’s candidacy would be a statewide game changer,” O’Scanlon said.
As New Jersey’s first Lt. Governor and the GOP nominee against Governor Murphy in 2017, Guadagno is uniquely positioned to energize the NJ Republican Party in an election year that is expected to generate dismally low voter interest. All Eighty seats in the General Assembly top the ballot this November. Without a statewide or national race on the ballot, voter turnout has been very low in the past. In 2015, the last year the Assembly topped the ballot, only 22.84% of Monmouth County voters cast a ballot, according to MonmouthCountyVotes.com
LD 13 is considered a safe Republican district. A Guadagno candidacy is seen by Republicans urging her to run as a statewide opportunity to energize the Party, enhance candidate recruitment efforts in other districts and to boost fundraising prospects from otherwise uninspired donors.
Guadagno, a Monmouth Beach resident, is probably the only non-Middletown resident who could win the GOP nomination for Assembly. Middletown, by far the largest town in the district has had a resident serving in the legislature for all but two years since 1966 when the legislative districts were created by a State Constitutional Convention. With Handlin’s pending retirement, the “Middletown seat” is expected to go to Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger or Middletown Township Committeeman Kevin Settembino.

Kevin Settembrino would be a poor choice. He has shown disdain for his constituency and has an anger issue. He supported and voted for putting 13 soccer fields in Stevenson Park which is only accessible is via a one lane bridge. He favors more large development in Middletown.

They can’t shoehorn enough apartment buildings into every vacant lot. The opposite is true in Middletown the park system is one of the best of any town in New Jersey. If you live in Shady Oaks or Shadow Lake you got the most recent addition to open space with Chris’s Deli being preserved.

First off, I’m not 90 so no I don’t live in Shadow Lake Village. Second, most of the parks in your quaint little slice of Suburbia are County Parks, no? Tatum, Thompson, Hartshorne, Bayshore Waterfront, etc. So I guess the kudos goes to the Mayor’s father-in-law and the rest of the Freeholders for running an efficient operation.
You may want to quit while you’re ahead instead of digging yourself a hole with your ignorance. You conveniently left out the magnificent Poricy Park, Memorial Gardens, Bicentennial Park, Ideal Beach, Lincroft Village Green or any of the 30 other parks that are owned by the township. The fact that we have awesome county parks and Sandy Hook are further testament to this town’s greatness. Now I know you sad sack democrats are bitter over the ass whupping you get every year, but you may want to spend your time convincing your democrat Governors to stop killing babies and raising taxes rather than making a fool of yourself on this site

Collectively, between the Great County Parks, Municipal parks and even a top National Park, Middletown’s Park system is one of the best in the country. I guess being a Democrat, who is Punch-Drunk from getting beaten into the ground election after election by the people of Middletown who are too smart to turn the town they love over to a party who is single-handedly driving New Jersey into the ground is a difficult thing to face. You can always move to one of those bastions of democrat leadership like Camden, Paterson, Trenton, or any other of their other hell holes if you want to feel more at home.

How exactly does Middletown have Sandy Hook? It is owned by the federal government. No one associates it with Middletown. Same with Hartshorne, Thompson, etc. who are operated and maintained by the Monmouth County Park System. So all of the positives attributed to those various locations have exactly zero to do with Middletown Township. You sure are a thin-skinned son of a bitch for a public official.

The Monmouth County Special Needs Registry is a voluntary service open to all citizens with disabilities who reside, attend school or are employed in Monmouth County. The registry was created to help police officers and other emergency service personnel to better assist residents with special needs in the event of an emergency by providing those first responders with vital information regarding a registrant’s disability, emergency contact information, a physical description and current photograph of the registrant.
