Monmouth Freeholders Vote To Privatize Nursing Homes
By a vote of 4-1, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders officially started the process of privatizing the John L. Montgomery and Geraldine L. Thompson Care Centers, the nursing homes that have been run by the county government since the early 1900’s.
Freeholder Director Gary Rich and Deputy Director Serena DiMaso joined Freeholders John Curley and Tom Arnone in voting to move the nursing homes to the private sector. Curley and Arnone have long advocated the privatization, while Rich and DiMaso have sought additional study of the issue. Freeholder Lillian Burry voted no on privatization, steadfastly maintaining her position that county government has an obligation to care for its most vulnerable residents. Burry favored a plan to merge the operations of the two care centers.
Monmouth County property taxpayers have borne deficits of $45 million in the nursing homes since 2007. With cutbacks in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements under ObamaCare, the deficits have grown to almost $7 million per year.
Tough decision, but a wise move I think. We just don’t have the money anymore.
And, the Freeholders are trying to keep the budget in line. If anyone wants to blame anyone for this, blame the Federal government and the never ending cuts to Medicare and Medicaid as illustrated in the article.
But, the Democrats will again try to say; the Republicans are pushing granny down the stairs. “Good Luck With That.”
It’s a dollars and cents issue
@Granelli it is the Republicans who want to cut Medicare and Medicaid. Just read there budget. And yes this is a good move.
Sigh….
Not even worth these keystrokes. That said, Jr, go back over to the rock you live under over at JSI.
It was nice and quiet here without the “useless idiots”
But Obamacare ACTUALLY cut $500 BILLION from Medicare. Republicans only want to do it differently and better.
Stop sucking down the DNC Kool Aid will you? Now, don’t bother with another response to me because you won’t get anything back. I’ve already wasted too many keystrokes here.
Oh, and the word is “their,” NOT there.
Granelli your a nothing. April 21 is coming.
Are you threatening my wife Jr?
How low can you go?
No one is threatening you do that. but the election is April 21. No one goes as low as you do
And just what do you have to do with that election Jr? Do you live in Neptune?
And who am I threatening, who have I threatened? And what does talking about the truth and facts have to do with low?
Are you Jason Jones, Vin Gopal, Larry Luttrell, Jon Salonis or Joe Grillo, trying to take your dislike of me out on my wife who has done NOTHING to hurt any of you.
She lives to serve the community and do it in an ethical and transparent manner.
Now, get back to the topic of the article instead of trolling and trying to flame things.
And the Neptune Republicans dislike of you.
jr – what’s April 21st?
Good points Art, I also would like the answers to thoses questions
Art, did your “friends” on the Freeholder Board ever get back to you regarding your questions regarding this matter???
Yeah Art, I guess you are not as close to or owned by the Monmouth Republicans as some people posting here would like to think
this venue continually devolve into silly and personal attacks? How about sticking to the headline’s topic Art throws out there, for some rational discussion? Jeesh- this is a serious decision that affects many vulnerable lives and their families, and speaks to the question of where taxpayers’ dollars need/ ought to be spent..
@ Why Must
I agree. Wholeheartedly. For much of the last 6 months or so, I have tried very hard not to throw bombs.
And the reality is that I should turn the other cheek when you see comments like above aimed at me.
But, you know, when you get bashed week after week after week by someone who really doesn’t know me, for NO good reason other than trying to destroy me because of my political beliefs, and then cowardly and anonymously takes an offhanded whack at my wife who is running on the Board of Education…
(@ Anony Mouse, that’s what April 21st is about)
Well, you kind of push back and say no more.
I’m 100% in favor of having names on this blog if only for exposing people. But, it’s not my blog.
