Dems’ Christie Probe Comes Up Empty

IMG_9501The Joint Legislative Committee led by Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) and Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) have produced an ‘interim” report that has found no evidence that Governor Chris Christie had any prior knowledge of the George Washington Bridge lane closures in September of 2013.

The report, which was made available to members of the committee yesterday and is scheduled to be made public on Monday, was reviewed by NJ.com who first reported on its contents.

“At present, there is no conclusive evidence as to whether Governor Chris Christie was or was not aware of the lane closures either in advance of their implementation or contemporaneously as they were occurring,” the report states. “Nor is there conclusive evidence as to whether Governor Christie did or did not have involvement in implementing or directing the lane closures.”

As has been widely reported since the “Bridgegate” story broke last January, the report indicates that Christie’s Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Ann Kelly and Port Authority staffer David Wildstein ordered the lane closures.  The Wisniewski/Weinberg investigation has not discovered why Kelly emailed Wildstein in August of 2013 “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.”  It has been widely speculated that the lane closures were political retribution aimed at Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich for failing to endorse Christie’s reelection.  The report repeats the speculation.

The report noted that several potential witnesses had not testified due to U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman’s ongoing investigation into the matter. Wisniewski told NJ.com that the probe would continue, but he doesn’t no when.

Christie is in Canada burnishing his foreign policy bona fides for his anticipated presidential run and has yet to comment on the interim report.

    IMHO ” At Present and interim” says they are not going to end this and stop wasting tax payer money.

    “At Present” says they want to keep it alive at least until they see if Christie runs for President.

    Now, it becomes a witch hunt for sure, especially since a similar Federal investigation has also come up empty.

    yet ambiguous- door’s still open. Face it, for better or worse, this is not going away- whomever was involved/knew, it was an ill- advised, childish, and egotistical political move: it is a blight on his character, management style, and administration’s record! You can rah- rah all you want, but realize, Republicans have always been pretty bad at cheap political moves- Dems are the pros at that!

    At this point, it should be left up to the feds if there is going to be any further action. At least as of now, the committee probably has taken this as far as they can. Still a lot of puzzle pieces not known with people resigning, taking the 5th etc.

    I can only theorize that the current federal investigation is yielding much poisonous fruit. I have read in the past that the US Attorney requested additional resources from the FBI due to the workload and avenues investigations are going down.

    As for Christie, if he can’t control his rogue staff members (assuming he didn’t know), how are we to be sure he can control a much larger staff as president???

    I don’t care what can or can not be proven, or who steps forward to fall on their sword…….a person would have to be a fool to think that Gov. Christie wasn’t behind this. He has shown himself to be a foul mouthed bully on more than one occasion and causing a traffic jam out of spite seems like his style.

    – And if he didn’t know about it, and his staff did this behind his back, then it tells me that his people do not respect him and he should not be in office. So which is it Gov? Are you a spiteful jerk who made his citizens miserable for a week to get revenge. or are you a bumbling fool who can’t control his own people?

    Statement should read
    ‘Not even a smidgen of corruption’

    “There is no evidence Governor Chris Christie was aware of the lane closures in advance or as they were occurring,” “Nor is there any evidence Governor Christie had involvement in implementing or directing the lane closures.”

    Now please stop the distractions and focus on reducing the 830,000 in the NJ entitlement system and the 430,000 illegals hiding in the shadows (many of which are included in the first number).

    The structural deficit, the health care insurance system and the public pension system are all in death spirals.

    Would you be kind enough, or should I say foolish enough where you got that info?? Just like the other post says, Up to 6 of the Bridgegate conspirators may get indicted–and that includes Christie!
