O’Scanlon: Pezzullo is best choice of U.S. Senate

Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon, R-Monmouth, this morning endorsed Freehold businessman for the GOP nomination to take on Senator Cory Booker this fall.

“Rich Pezzullo has a unique combination of skills that are rare in the Senate,” Assemblyman O’Scanlon said, “He has firsthand knowledge of the effects of over-regulation on different types of businesses,  the confidence and bearing from 20 years as an Army officer and a command of the issues that is desperately needed in Washington. We need to send Rich Pezzullo to the Senate where the fight for fiscal restraint, accountability and much needed regulatory relief for New Jersey calls for his energy, vision and commitment.”

O’Scanlon noted that Pezzullo’s experience as an information technology business owner gave him a unique perspective on the needs of business owners. “Rich Pezzullo doesn’t need a lobbyist to give him his talking points about Federal intrusion into private life.  He works at the front lines of consumer businesses, medical practices and charities and sees firsthand the damage being done to our economy and our society by excess government.”

O’Scanlon also pointed to Pezzullo’s previous experience in state wide campaigns and his technology background as two areas where he held significant advantages over his primary opponents.

“Rich is a vigorous campaigner who connects with people and wins their support,” he said, “and his ability to leverage technology and social media are superior to the other candidates in this race. Combined with his experience with grassroots organization, volunteer operations and voter outreach, he is the best candidate to take on the Democrat machine in November.”

“Rich Pezzullo is a man of action, which is important now more than ever because what Washington needs is more action, not more speeches, tweets or Facebook posts.”

Pezzullo is a computer technician from Freehold.  A graduate of Cornell University, he served 20 years in the US Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Major.  A former EMT and scout leader, he is active in municipal and church activities.

    This is going to be a very interesting primary.

    So far, to me; it does not seem like any of the Senate candidates have won a majority of the “county lines” on the ballots.

    That means the ability to reach out to your voters and inform them where you are on the ballot will be important.

    Jim, Brian Goldberg carries 3 Counties (Essex, Pasaic, and Ocean) to Pezzullo’s 1 (Union). About 8 – 10 counties are holding open primaries, meaning they will not endorse any of the 5 candidates in the U.S. Senate race (at the moment). There are 21 counties in New Jersey, which means that about 7 or 8 more will endorse candidates.

    Goldberg, with the help of Ocean, has made huge gains and has shown that he is electable on both the screening, voting, and regular endorsing rounds. He seems to connect to mainstream voters and is poised to shake up the primary process which many expected Sabrin to handily win. However, as we all see, there are only two candidates with county lines so far: Brian Goldberg and Rich Pezzullo. And to be completely honest, I believe Goldberg has a tremendous opportunity and genuine shot of getting half or more of the remaining county lines.

    May I remind you that Rich Pezzullo is the only candidate to win a line without backing from the county organization before the convention. He walked in to Union, barely managed to get nominated from the floor, then won on the first ballot. If I’m Brian Goldberg, I’m scared-there are few remaining counties where Pezzullo won’t be speaking. And if you heard Goldberg’s victory speech, it was decidedly uninspired.

    Also, many people left after the CD3 vote and so were voted for by their municipal chairmen who are much more likely to do what the county tells them to.
