Monmouth Freeholders Introduce Budget With No Tax Increase For 4th Consecutive Year
Spending is reduced to 2008 Level

The all Republican Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders introduced their budget for the coming year on Thursday evening at the Eastern Branch of the County Library system in Shrewsbury. The $480.9 million budget is $100,000 lower than the current year’s spending and, for the fourth consecutive year includes no tax increase on Monmouth County property owners.
Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal did not issue a statement congratulating the freeholders. When last we heard from Gopal, he was threatening legal action against the owner and publisher of this site for ridiculing his false statements about Republicans.
The budget plan reflects a continuing effort by the freeholder board to reduce County spending while dealing with increased costs and reduced revenue.
“It is a challenge every year to try to cut spending without reducing the level of services our taxpayers have come to expect,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry. “This process is not something that is done in haste. This budget reflects the months of work that has gotten us to a flat tax rate for the fourth year in a row.”
As introduced, the budget is down by $100,000 from the last year, bringing the overall County spending down below the 2008 level. The amount to be raised by

taxation is $302,475,000, the same as it was in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
“This year, an internal budget subcommittee met with each department to look for duplicative services and identify areas for consolidation and savings,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Gary J. Rich, Sr., liaison to the Finance Department. “This process has yielded savings in the areas of information technology, finance, human resources, building maintenance and legal services.”
The County budget is tentatively scheduled for adoption at 7 p.m. on April 10, following the official public hearing. The Freeholders will have a PowerPoint presentation at their regular public meeting at 7 p.m. on March 27 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters on Symmes Drive, Manalapan. The public is invited to attend and comment.
“We have introduced a budget that holds the line on taxes at a time when residents are grappling with rising household expenses such as gasoline and groceries,” Freeholder John P. Curley said. “We have been able to make strides through outsourcing in many areas that, over the past few years, have led to multi-million dollar savings.”
Howell Councilman Bob Walsh, a candidate challenging Burry and Rich’s renomination as freeholders, said he was familiar with the budget but declined to comment at this time.

Maybe it’s Vin that needs therapy for his lies and false charges? Did you ever think about that? Of course not.
Oh yeah we need to dump this guy! 3 years with no tax increases. However will we payoff the growing number of harassment lawsuits coming against the full-time freeholder who also runs his small business full-time (not sure how that math works!). Also with no extra tax dollars how will the businessman/freeholder and Mr. perfect from Howell be able to hire former Mayor Klienberg? Oh yes dear friends all three were boosting about that at Eagle Oaks the other night. Yup add Kleinberg to Ladato and two Hawleys and Club Monmouth is BACK!!!!! These four will carry on the proud tradition of other unqualified political hacks of years past like Palugi, O’Grady, Broderick and Joey Buses!!
Who are you talking about Mouth girl? You aren’t making sense to the vast majority, because after all, how many people were at this Eagle Oaks event? And since when are Freeholders full time, when did that happen?
Come on which freeholder who is always bragging at the beginning of every speech that he is the only full time freeholder and is always in his office – Monday thru Friday. But by the end of the speech talks about how he runs his family business. I will give you one guess and four hints. It is not Arnone, Rich, Burry or DiMaso.
Democrat Dave raised an interesting point. Evidently Art read somewhere that some pervert molested a girl on an airplane, and the first person he thinks about is Vin Gopal. I’m not a psychoanalyst, but I’d bet Sigmund Freud would have something to say about it.
I think Vin Gopal deserves at least some credit for no tax increase. He has made Monmouth Democrats more competitive than they were in the past, and obviously GOP Freeholders in Monmouth don’t want to go the way of Freeholders in Bergen, Burlington and elsewhere. In Ocean County, which has been run by a single GOP boss (George Gilmore) and his Board of hand-picked stooges, with no credible opposition from Democrats for years and years, the county tax has been going up every year.
This is a great accomplishment for our Freeholders and a great service to the taxpayer.
I wish I did not have to read about or have Vin Gopal mentioned.
Why give him any press good bad or indifferent.
The owner of the site lappears petty and unprofessional, ( I do not know him I am just saying what this looks like) these are the same tactics that Gopal deploys. This should have been about holding the line on taxes and nothing else.
Oh well, just my two cents and I guess thats what it’s worth.
