I have to give credit where credit is due, the Governor’s appearance at the Asbury Boardwalk did benefit the shore’s economy in one direct way, I bought 2 drinks from an Asbury business while attending the event.
I also have spent a few decades and quite a lot of time in the last few years studying the pros and cons, numbers and science, thinking and non thinking proselytizing on the issue of climate change and our society.
The larger issue is not for this forum, the fact that not one word was uttered on the subject of the environment, by either the Governor or the press corps, is a fit topic for this forum and I have just made that point.
The questions and answers needed for today’s issues and problems facing all political, religious and social groups in the world are not simple and will not come from the same old enjoy the sunshine and stop looking for the negative bonhomie.
They certainly will not come from granting waivers to private projects when they ask for waivers on known environmental problems existing or to be produced from the new.
50 years of reported and verified environmental degradation should not be waived off to continue not only harmful industrial practices but in the hope of producing future fossil fueled industrial growth. Economics, security and long term development and growth do not come from more of the same, its comes from experimenting, promoting and supporting the new, the innovative and the sustainable.

Hey Guv how about talking to Mitch McConnell et al about this “rooting for failure” thing….Tip O’Neill said he would give Reagan a 6 month honeymoon. And we all know what McConnell gave Obama.
I’m not “rooting for failure” I’m rooting for success at the national, regional, state and local levels. In New Jersey I’m not seeing even the beginning of the “comeback” that the Christie states is happening. To stay with the Jersey shore theme, nautically speaking the state is in ‘irons’: becalmed, no wind behind the sails. By qualifying the meaning behind the words “Jersey comeback” by what he didn’t mean, doesn’t change the fact that there has been little economic movement in a positive direction in the state, and there has been opportunity to make that happen. Christie chose early on to not make that happen when he cancelled a major infrastructure project and failed to secure significant education funding.
What politicians are rooting for deflects the conversation from what is actually happening and from what the Christie is actually doing with the resources that he does control to actually start and then maintain a Jersey comeback.
He stated that he carefully chooses his words: he carefully chose to emphasize private job growth (employment) and not overall job growth (employment) and failed to address overall job loss (unemployment).
