Impreveduto calls for COVID-19 appropriate high school graduation ceremonies
Monmouth County Freeholder Patrick Impreveduto, a retired high school educator, is calling upon Governor Phil Murphy to allow New Jersey’s high schools to commemorate the accomplishments of their graduating seniors with modified commencement ceremonies.
“I have read and heard many comments and concerns from high school seniors and their parents with regard to graduation ceremonies this year,” Impreveduto said. “I believe that graduation ceremonies should be allowed to take place in honor of their hard work as this is a long-awaited milestone in their academic careers.”
“High school seniors have been severely impacted by the sudden ending of their high school experience. They have lost their privilege to fun, end-of-the-year senior activities due to circumstances beyond their control. These events typically become some of the fondest memories that students have of their time in high school. Graduation gives students closure on their K-12 education as they embark on their new challenges in life.
“I believe as long as social protocols are in place, Governor Murphy should strongly consider allowing high school graduations to on as scheduled. Hosting the ceremony outside, limiting the number of attendees, and maintaining the 6 foot distance are all plausible precautions that schools can take to ensure the safety of faculty, students and their families.
“Congratulations to all high school seniors on their upcoming graduation.”
Thank you! And it is doable. These kids can serve people in “essential” businesses, get on a fully booked plane but can’t walk on a stage to receive their diploma. Ludicrous!!! They deserve to walk and receive their diploma in front of their classmates on that stage!!
