Gilmore sentenced to 1 year and a day, 3 years supervised release
Former Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison and three years supervised release by U.S. District Court Judge Ann Thompson in Trenton federal court, according to independent journalist Gavin Rozzi who was present at the sentencing hearing.
Gilmore was instructed to surrender at Fort Dix on April 1. His defense attorney requested he remain free on bail pending the appeal of his convictions for failing to remit employees’ payroll taxes to the IRS and lying on a credit application to Ocean First Bank. The government opposed the bail motion. Judge Thompson scheduled briefs to be submitted within three weeks.
During the hearing, Judge Thompson said Gilmore’s conduct “defies logical explanation,” Rozzi told MMM.
Politico’s Matt Friedman reported via twitter that Gilmore is also mandated to get mental health treatment.
