Menendez math: $58,000 = $1,000,000

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez is arguing that the $58,000 he reimbursed to Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen for private jet flights, prior to his corruption trial, covers the almost $1 million in extravagant gifts and contributions that the Senate Ethics Committee ordered he repay, according to report at Politico.

“I think the Ethics Committee was unaware that there were a series of payments that were made before they continued their review,” Menendez said.

The U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics issued a four page letter on April 26, signed by all six committee members, three Democrats and three Republicans, that “several admonished” New Jersey’s senior senator for his violations of Senate ethics rules, federal law and his conduct which reflected discredit on the Senate.

The committee ruled that Menendez must repay the fair market value of the gifts he received that he has not already repaid and that he must amend his Financial Disclosure Reports.

  1. Problem is, said at 10:11 am on May 29th, 2018:

our fellow voters here in Blue Jersey do not seem to care one bit, about the crookedness or incompetence of this guy. Was infuriating to see him up there at the committee hearings, with his snarky sound bites about the “art of diplomacy” being harder than the “art of the deal” of our president.- Like he has ever done anything positive, to get NJ any better return for our dollars from DC, than dead LAST! Disgusting! But wait, he’s Hispanic, and we really need “diversity,” so he’ll get blindly voted back in.- I hope Mr. Hugin doesn’t mind spending all that money to try and crack the blind repetition… PS: can anyone please tell Mr. Hugin: your lawn signs are ok with your name in white, but one can NOT see that “US Senate” in dark red, driving by! Please, change them. You need all the help you can get..

  2. Hugin the Democrat? said at 3:57 pm on May 29th, 2018:

Hugin doesn’t make it clear he’s running for Senate? Maybe the same way his ads don’t make it clear he’s a Republican. Or running in a primary.
Watching those ads, you’d think he’s a Democrat running against Menendez in the Democrat primary!

Goldberg is running. He’s been all over the state proudly stating that the GOP is the better alternative, and getting conservatives excited for a candidate for the first time in, well, seemingly forever.

  3. In a state said at 8:32 am on May 30th, 2018:

with some 5.8 million voters, and only 1.2 mil of them declared Republicans, ( and 2.1 mil Dems,) you have to understand the strategy of running more generic, to even get a foot in the door! Having voted for many conservative Republicans in primaries over the years, only to watch us get killed in November, you can’t vote right, until/ unless you get elected! Philosophy is important, but what good is it, unless we can win?-Do you realize in a supposedly “Republican” Monmouth, we are out- registered by Dems 122 thousand to 119 thousand, with 204 thousand undeclared, even before we start? It is bad enough that the average NJ voter doesn’t pay much attention, thinks left, and usually votes for incumbents, no matter what they have or haven’t done, this year, the new guy is spending millions, just for some name I D.

The bottom line is, if Menendez gets re- elected, you can count on zero support from him, for anything the President is trying to do. If Hugin happens to get in, it’s a crucial vote we desperately need in close situations- like the wall, more tax cuts, the next Supreme Court Justice, the budget, etc.! Big picture, please.
