Circus Camel Escapes In Middletown
North Middletown- A female camel escaped from St. Catherine’s Church on Monday. The camel, Heidi, is not left over from the parish’s nativity scene. She is a featured performer in the circus that St. Catherine’s is hosting tonight, Tuesday, May 24.
Heidi escaped while the circus staff was setting up the tent for tonight’s festivities, according to church secretary Kathy Toomey.
“The camel took a stroll down Bray Avenue dragging her tether and chain behind her,” Toomey said. Residents of Bray Avenue laughed and said they were unaware of the incident when MMM asked them about it.
A staff member of Zerbini Family Circus recovered Heidi and brought her back to the church grounds without incident.
There are two circus shows tonight at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Camel and pony rides are available before and in between the shows. Tickets are $15 for teenagers and adults, $12 for children aged 4-12 and children under 3 years old are free. 450 tickets have been pre-sold.
I am saddened that the fine people of Middletown would support capitlizing on animals that are tortured for profit.
Seriously? Camel rides are hardly torture! We had camel rides as kids….everyone needs to grow up and stop being so butt hurt over EVERYTHING!
How sad! These circus’s need to stop! And a church would hire these people just so they can make more money
oh please, lighten up will you! These animals never had it so good. The radical Peta-types have personified animals to the point that they think they are human, with thought processes and feelings like us. I love going to the circus, dog shows, rodeos and taking my kids to petting zoos. Nothing fosters a better appreciation of animals than the interaction we have with them at these events. Enough with this politically correct garbage already
