UPDATE: THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE KNEW OF THE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE AND EXPECTED THE COLLASPE

The Asbury Park Press is reporting that Gateway National Recreation Area’s management has been aware of structural damage to the building, number 23, since last fall and expected the roof to collapse.

“We did know that there was a chance that the roof would collapse because last fall one of the main support beams punctured the wall,” said Daphne Yun, spokeswoman for Gateway National Recreation Area, according to APP.
