Who won the debate?

It seems to me that Romney performed best tonight.  He didn’t let Obama mischaracterized his proposals.  He had a superior command of the issues.  He was aggressive yet respectful.

Yet there was no knock out punch.

Obama seemed to be to be detached and disinterested.  I don’t recall Obama ever having the demeanor he displayed tonight.  He did not engage the camera or Romney.  He and Jim Lehrer seemed to be having a nice chat.

What do you think?

    Hands Down Romney Won!

Obama looked on the defensive, stumbled on his words, and not friendly.

Romney looked energized extremely knowledgable and ate Obama alive!

Who let Bob English vote 3 times??? Oh, Democrat. Figures.

  4. Bob English said at 8:03 am on October 4th, 2012:

lol,,, sorry but that wasn’t me. Hey Romney certainly did what he had to do to stay in the race and I wish Obama was more agressive especially on Romneys tax policy and in bringing up other points. I’m still trying to figure out if Romney changed what he has been proposing (regarding taxes) but at any rate has still not explained what deductions he would eliminate to make up for the $10 trillion revenue reduction that would result over 10 years that would come with the proposal he has been talking about for months. Paul Ryan told Chris Wallace that “there is not enough time” to explain which decuctions would be eliminated however maybe when he debates Biden he can be more forthcoming.

  5. Bob English said at 9:43 am on October 4th, 2012:

woops…above post should have stated $5 trillion (not $10 trillion)

  6. bunch of liars said at 10:56 am on October 4th, 2012:

Romney did not change his tax cut proposal. The 5 trillion is a lie. Just because a bunch of libs say it is so does not make it so.

Just like the lie that Romney is going to cut education funding.

Just like the lie that Romney has not paid taxes for 10 years.

Just like the lie that Romney and Ryan hate women.

When is Obama going to start talking about his failed Economic and Foreign policy.

When is Obama going to take responsiblity for statements such as this “unemployment will be 5.1 percent after the stimulus is passed.”

Or “this is a one term endeavor I will fix this in one term”

Or “I will reduce the deficit by one half in my first term.”

Or “its unpatriotic to keep racking up debt”

If you can actually say you are safer and better off then you were when his term started you are so paritsan that you are not paying attention.

Blind followers of this President will reap what they sow if he wins.

  7. bunch of liars said at 11:48 am on October 4th, 2012:

Here are some more Obama fairy tales:

“You get a tax cut for moving jobs overseas”

“The Romney plan will take medicare away from seniors”

(we all know that the Romney/Ryan plan does not change benefits for anyone that reaches age 50.)

“Romney does not care about the poor”
(How much did the Obama’s give to charity)

“I will not raise taxes on the Middle Class”

    “America will lead from behind”

An independant that will not be fooled again.

  9. Kayo said at 12:29 pm on October 4th, 2012:

What debate were the six people who thought Obama won last night watching?

  10. Bob English said at 1:53 pm on October 4th, 2012:

Well if its not $5 trillion, what is it and what deductions will be cut to make it revenue neutral??? Mitt wont say, Ryan (I dont have enough time, wont say) and Romney advisers wont say. Even Chris Wallace cut through Ryan’s bs on the matter.

Its the centerpiece of his economic plan so its not asking allot of him to provide details.

  11. Hey, Lil Bobbie, Answer The Question said at 2:01 pm on October 4th, 2012:

Just How Bad Does It Have To Get For You To Switch To Romney.

    Simple Question.

  12. Tom Stokes said at 2:53 pm on October 4th, 2012:

Just three quotes tell me who won (as if I didn’t know it from watching the debate).

Bill Maher: i can’t believe i’m saying this, but Obama looks like he DOES need a teleprompter (tweet)

    Joy Behar: Obama blew it.

Charles M. Blow (NY Times) ..President Xanax just doesn’t cut it.

Now, let’s keep it going through Nov 6th.

  13. bunch of liars said at 3:16 pm on October 4th, 2012:

Here are some more for you.

I am told that Governor Romney’s new running mate, Paul Ryan, might be around Iowa the next few days,” he said while in Council Bluffs, Iowa. “He is one of the leaders of Congress standing in the way. So if you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities.”

House passed bill on August 2, 2012 (Paul Ryan voted yes)

Back in September, as part of the American Jobs Act, the President called for providing a $4,000 tax credit for businesses that hire the long-term unemployed—a similar approach to what Romney suggested Thursday night. Yet Republicans in Congress blocked this tax credit, along with the broader package the President put forward to help workers get back on the job, at every turn.

There are two main lies in this paragraph. The first is the lie that Republicans blocked the tax credit. Not true. Mitch McConnell offered the entire American Jobs Act as an amendment in the Senate and Harry Reid blocked it.

Senator McConnell attempted to put the president’s jobs plan to a vote by offering it as an amendment to a bill dealing with China’s currency. Senator Reid used a procedural maneuver to block it, calling the amendment “senseless.”

Last time I checked, Harry Reid is a Democrat, not a Republican

    Some about ObamaCare

Obamacare won’t add to the deficit, he said. But according to actuaries for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Obamacare will “add about $478 billion in cumulative health spending” through 2021.
Obamacare will “bring down (health insurance) premiums by $2,500 for the typical family,” the president said. MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, who helped draft the law, says now Obamacare will increase premiums by 19 percent to 30 percent.
You can keep your private health insurance if you want to, he said. Obamacare may cause 30 percent to 50 percent of private employers to drop their health insurance plans, the management consulting firm McKinsey & Co. estimated last year. A survey in May indicated that 71 of the top 100 companies could drop their health plans.
“If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” he said. Post-Obamacare, 83 percent of physicians are considering quitting medicine, according to a survey by the Doctor Patient Medical Association

Oh Bob you mean like Pelosi saying you have to pass the bill before you can know whats in it.

Give me a break you prove you know NOTHING about our tax code.

What is Obamas plan. He spends so much time asking about Romneys he still after 4 years has not given us his. It is seat of your pants economics.

Hey Bob, please tell us what his plan is since you are so informed.

I know what Romneys Plan will accomplish. Learn the tax code and how the IRS works and maybe you will get it. Again WHAT is Obama’s plan.

I can go all day but why waste my time on you

  14. Charles M said at 3:36 pm on October 4th, 2012:

I must say my favorite part of the debate is when Mitt Romney said “I have been in business for 24 years and I have no idea what you are talking about!”

  17. Bob English said at 6:30 pm on October 4th, 2012:

“Bunch of Liars”: Regarding personal income taxes, all Obama is proposing is to let the Bush tax cuts expire on the top rate. That only affects the top 2% of earners leaving 98% unaffected. The top rate goes back to what it was at the end of Clintons term (which was the last time the country had a budget surplus).

As for spending cuts, the President proposed as part of the above package, huge spending cuts that would have reduced futute deficits by at least $4 trillion. As mentioned previously that was called “The Grand Compromise” which D’s and moderate R’s including the Speaker were very close to reaching a deal….that is until the extremist Tea Party members of the House would not support their own Speaker…so no deal! Thank you House Republicans

I don’t like to use the term “liar” but I just saw one factcheck site which has detailed 27 statements by Romney which were either totally untrue or partially untrue. I see his campaign has even taken back a couple of his claims made last night.

Interesting that the nuumber of posts that mention the cost of Romneys proposed cuts in the rates by 20% and the list of what dedcutions he will eliminate is a big fat ZERO

I will stick with the $5 trillion that several independent studys say it will cost and also not that eliminating deductions for the top payers will be a drop in the bucket in terms of overall revenue that will be lost. I will ask again, WHAT DEDUCTIONS IS HE GOING TO ELIMINATE?

  18. Big Win for Romney said at 8:20 pm on October 4th, 2012:

Obama was horrible last night. The Empty Chair would’ve been more pleasant to watch.

He appeared arrogant, angry, condescending, and completely unwilling to listen to anything his opponent had to say. Who could negotiate with a guy like that? What kind of leader treats those who would disagree with him, with such obvious contempt? This is the same guy who promised to unite the nation. Hah! Yeah, right.

His performance in the debate was a true “Fail”, as is his presidency. Last night it was painfully clear why.

  19. Proud Republican said at 8:23 pm on October 4th, 2012:

I have one question – how did Bob English find ten computers to vote in Art’s poll?

  20. Sure, It's Easy For The Obummbler said at 8:33 pm on October 4th, 2012:

To Call Romney A Phoney, When He’s Not In Front Of A National TV Audience, When Romney Can’t Answer The Charges, When The Liar In Chief Is In Front Of A Friendly Crowd.

Mr. Obummer, You Are A COWARD.

  21. Bob English said at 11:05 pm on October 4th, 2012:

Proud….$10,000 bet??? It wasn’t me. $10,000 bet? You can hook me up to the lie detector test and it will show that I did not vote, lol!!

Speaking of votes, have fun trying to find the people who actually thought Kryillos beat Menendez tonight. Last time I looked at Art’s poll Joe K was ahead.

I’ll give Romney his day in the sun even though he probably broke the fact check record for the most misrepresentation of facts in one debate. 27 and counting. I blame Obama 100% for not calling him out on them.

Note that other challangers who fared very well against incumbent Presidents in their first debate were Mondale who made minced meat out of Reagan (and went on to lose 49 states) and John Kerry who decisively beat W but lost the election.

Sure Its Easy: I saw you and the title of the article said the President referred to Romney as a phony but did he actually say that/use that word? It was not quoted in the article or in the video.

  22. Bunch of liars said at 9:49 am on October 5th, 2012:

This is my last response to you, since you see I have a business to run so that I can contribute to this redistribution of wealth.

First of all your” fact checkers” mean nothing to me. You choose the “fact checkers” you want to believe”. Who knows who funds them, what their political slant is. That works both ways so I check my own facts.

All the lies that are posted are Obama’s own words or actions fact checked by me.

Second, you prove you have no idea how the tax code works or even what it is. For example, Based on your comments 98 percent of the population does not own an investment that has a capital gain, since expiration of bush tax cuts will raise the tax on capital gains from 15% to a top rate of 23.8%. (a 60% increase). Also I guess 98 percent of the population do not earn dividends since the tax on dividends will increase from 15% to a top rate of 43.4%(a 200% increase). I guess those retirees that own all those dividend paying stocks are not in that 98%

Please do yourself a favor. Research on your own and please stop regurgitating the liberal party line as if it was gospel.

Now for Obama’s cuts. The very large majority of those cuts will not happen for years and are phased in. But more important, the vast majority of those cuts are in defense and military related expenses. Almost none are in any reforms to entitlement programs.

Now for the Obama lie of the day. This one goes back to 2007 when he made his fire and brimstone speak declaring the Bush admin did not care about the people of New Orleans since they would not waive the stafford act. MY reseach show that the stafford act was waived 10 days prior to that speech.

Please learn the tax code and do your own fact checking before commenting.

Unlike you who believe anything the Democrates and libs say, I check my own facts, understand the tax code and finances.

Oh, by the way its nice that you do not like to use the term liar. I guess you are better than your President and his staff. Since they are call Mr. Romney a liar.

    Very Presidential.

Oh and by the way you still did not tell my what Obama’s plan is. That two line answer is not a plan. Should we know it by know since he had four years in office.

You see, I read the budget he proposed to Congress. His own party would not pass it.

Oh I just heard part of the plan from Biden, raise taxes on the rich by 1 trillion. And their defination of rich are people that earn 200,000 per year. What a joke.

Is his plan to reduce the budget by half in next four years like he did in the first.

  23. Ya forgot said at 7:13 pm on October 7th, 2012:

Jobs- the revenue that will come when American People have Jobs and pay their taxes. When illegals are dealt with -many whom do not pay taxes, yet are costing the taxpayers billions upon billions in hand-outs. When business can expand and thrive, when new start-ups survive. You’ll see Romney is correct when he tells the American people
He will turn this economy around and reduce spending while paying down the debt.
