Middletown Democrats will elect a new chairman

Joe Caliendo

Joe Caliendo is stepping down as chairman of the Middletown Democratic Party after 25 years.  He will continue to serve on the County Committee and as Sergeant-At-Arms of the county organization.

Caliendo was reelected as the Middletown Democratic leader on June 5.  He was an instrumental supporter of Vin Gopal’s landslide victory as Monmouth County Democratic Chairman.  His resignation is effective upon the election of a new Chair.

The Democrat’s Executive Committee will hold a special election on July 18th.

Don Watson

Port Monmouth resident Don Watson, President of the Democratic Social Club and Sergeant-At-Arms of the local committee has announced his candidacy.  Watson will likely be the only candidate.

Former School Board Member Lenny Inzerillo, a past candidate for Assembly, Freeholder and State Senate, told MMM that he had been approached to run for Chairman but was not likely to run.  “Why rock the boat?” Inzerillo said.

Former Township Committee Member Sean Byrnes said Watson “is a hard worker and will probably do a good job.”

Sad that these chairs seem to have “lifetime tenure.” In our town, we will now have lost 7 elections in a row.

Yet, the chair is insulated from being fired by his hand picked good old boys network. One gives up trying to write in candidates or challenging such failures. It’s all a game to those chairs who are only interested in power, not the betterment of their party and letting people who are capable of winning, lead.

What a joke. Isn’t Watson the guy who was once arrested for stealing Republican signs and lying to the cops? This is who the Democrats are choosing to lead their party? I guess he’ll fit right in with the other motley crew of slimeballs. Let’s see, we had one guy who falsified petitions, another one who took and never claimed an illegal 100k loan, another guy hit with an ethics charge in office, another one who was caught on a surveillance camera destroying township property, and who could forget the grand daddy of them all, the crack addict and woman abuser who was arrested not once, but twice. Oops, almost forgot the present candidate who wants gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (whatever the heck that is) taught in Middletown schools. And those big pressing issues of fracking water and genetically altered alfalfa. All the while soaking up the union money that pours into town. What a circus.

Yes – I guess it is hard work bending over and pulling up signs while robbing them. It’s also very hard work to think up a good BS story to tell the cops.

    Yup, hard work all right.

Anybody need slightly used political signs? Great to use the back to announce yard sales…

Does Don Watson have any left?

Art – couldn’t you get a bigger photo of Watson that shows the number across his chest?
