Rick Perry Is Not This Jersey Girl’s Candidate

carolee-adamsBy Carolee Adams, President, Eagle Forum of New Jersey

Governor Rick Perry is not this Jersey Girl’s candidate – and the primary reason concerns his softness about illegal immigration.

We need thousands of boots on the ground – and – a wall with electronic surveillance at our borders. Governor Perry supports only the former and, to what degree, I have not heard.

We cannot encourage more illegal immigration by granting tuition breaks to those who are not citizens as Governor Perry has done  in Texas.

On my radar screen this morning came a report about Governor Perry’s attempted hush hush visit to the Inwood section of Washington Heights in New York. That’s part of Rudy Giuliani’s sanctuary city, by the way. Perry met with Latino leaders – in particular, of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. Politically, it’s not problematic to reach out to the Latino community and those who are discouraged by the Obama administration that attacks their livelihood. However, traditionally, that community represents a large Democratic voting block. They might be helpful to a nominee in the General Election, but not in the GOP Primary that Perry must win first. His visit is curious.

Rick Perry’s candidacy dies with his stubborn stance on illegal immigration that he strongly defended in the debate last night. Even the Northeast is withering on the vine because of illegal immigration. Reports indicate a minimum cost of over $3 Billion to New Jersey taxpayers alone to subsidize illegal alien activity in hospitals, schools, jails, and more. Illegal immigration cannot – must not – be tolerated or encouraged – particularly by any candidate hoping to win the GOP nomination for President of the United States of America.

And just when I thought that there was FINALLY a republican with a heart, who didn’t blame innocent children for the acts of their parents, comes this post.

    Oh well.

Carolee Adams is just a crank.

I wasn’t favorably impressed initially with Rick Perry. But if Carolee Adams doesn’t like him, then Perry’s definitely got some good qualities and is worth a second look.

Rainy night, blogging or doing a grocery list.

    Some choice!
As a conservative, the Guardasil thing doesn’t even bother me Perry. There was an opt out provision. That’s all that I needed to know. With all of the rampant sexually transmitted diseases, it’s another safeguard.

But seriously, this immigration thing about Perry has me worried. I agree with him about not building a fence IF AND ONLY IF we can be assured of an invincible virtual fence. And, I suspect the technology is there, if we are willing to pay for and use it.

But the in state tuition thing REALLY pisses me off. We as Americans are struggling, and I don’t know how we can pay our kids college tuition without putting them in the hole with monstrous loans.

Talk about having a heart Rick, have a heart about us; will ya?

Texas is not the only state that has this provision for illegal aliens. New York under Pataki enacted it as well.

    1. So we punish the kids because there parents are here illegally?

    2. What is the impact of having all these uneducated alien kids on the streets all day long?

    3. What is the long term impact of an uneducated sub class?

    4. Why do we have an illegal immigrant policy?
    a. Do our immigration laws make sense?
    b. Who are the real law breakers the illegal immigrants trying to get ahead or the businesses that hire them?

    TR…

How would YOU feel if you are struggling to pay your kid’s college tuition and not sure how you can afford the school that your child wants to go to; while the children of an illegal alien get a break?

And THEN having to be told by Perry that we don’t have a heart?

Have a heart for US, those that are struggling to make ends meet, play by the rules and want to make sure our kids can go to the best colleges possible WITHOUT having to take out a lot of loans that will burden that child as they try to find work in an economy that provides little jobs right now.

What’s worse is how many of those parents of those illegal aliens are not paying taxes AND STILL get the benefit of in state tuition!

BY ALL MEANS…let them go to college, but they should have to pay like everybody else. NO breaks.

THIS is the context of the way the issue needs to be looked at.

    Well freespeaker,
For the record I havwestruggled to pay my kid’s college tuition and not bben sure how to afford the school that ny child wanted to go to.

If this is just related to college tuition breaks for illegals I agree they should not get that I thought we were talking more broadly about allowing them to attend elementry and high scholl.

BTW question # 4 should sat problem not policy.

  8. Freespeaker1976 said at 1:56 pm on September 24th, 2011:

The problem dejour (spelling) is with Perry giving instate college tuition to children of illegals. That’s what was on the table for discussion, as I understand it.

No problem with letting them go to school, that was never discussed relative to the debates. The problem is giving breaks to people come here illegally.

Sure, we have a responsibility to educate them, despite many of the illegal families NOT paying taxes at all to pay for even the elementary education.

Tuition breaks only compound the the burden to American taxpayers.

My problem now is that I was a Bachman supporter, swung to Perry; but now pissed off at Bachman because she’s focusing on Guardasil rather than JOBS and pissed off at Perry on immigration. THESE plus the debt are the issues of the day, not a policy where there was an opt out provision.

would be a better Pres. than what we have now, period.. there’s no one perfect person, for sure, but I can’t eliminate anyone because of one trait or stance-it’s too important, and, too soon, really.. looking at the whole picture, I will (again) go with whomever is chosen, God help us it’ll probably be a Romney.. so,my major concern remains the fact that this clown will have a BILLION dollars to spend to lie, cheat, and steal this next election- am praying we will be up to the task of ensuring our vote is fair, open, and true, and that whomever it is can get the real message out, to somehow turn this ship around once again.. with some 47% invested in the status quo of lifetime programs and continuing government subsidies and no work, it is becoming nearly impossible to vote to relieve those taxpayers left ,of any of this tremendous, ongoing burden!..
