PBA Goes After Rible

By Art Gallagher

The Asbury Park Press is reporting that Michael A. Deroian of PBA Local 314 of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office has issued union charges against Assemblyman Dave Rible.

Derion says Rible’s vote for pension and benefit reforms violated his PBA oath:

“… and I do further promise – and declare I will not – by word, deed, sign or token – injure a fellow member of this Association.”

Rible retired on disability from the Wall Township Police Department in 1998.  He remains a member of the union.

It seems to me that Derion’s charges do more to injure Rible than Rible’s vote to save the pensions did to injure any PBA member.

I’m a supporter of the police, but I find that oath scary.

    The PBA is the enemy.

David Rible is not “permanently & totally disabled.”

Does that mean a PBA member may not cite a fellow officer for a traffic violation or may not testify against that fellow officer in a court of law?

Was Mr. Rible found to be disabled by Social Security or solely disabled under the extremely lenient rules of the state pension system (as compared to the Social Security Disability requirements)?

Even if found disabled for Social Security Disability, those benefits would have long ago terminated with his service in the Legislature.

I am not sure this article is even fair. This to me is an attack on Rible. He was injured on the job and is disabled to be a cop. A cop was his chosen profession. Do not hate the player, hate the game. Rible is doing nothing illegal here. He is just taking advantage of the system in a legal way and collecting what he is owed. I think his running is what helps him cope with the injuries.

Likely chance that “truth” is Jim Sage, or is at least buying into the same tired garbage Jim Sage repeats, meanwhile Jim Sage will comment here about how he got his job without fraud and deceit and blah blah blah and double dipping isn’t illegal and how he’s just trying to earn a honest living….

I’m not thrilled that Dave takes two paychecks from the State, I’m not thrilled that Jim Sage and thousands of other “civilians” do it either. I can’t tell you the number of people who I’ve met who are “retired” government workers, who are now employed full time as “civilian contractors” for the same government agencies they retired from… and we wonder why unemployment is at 9+%… “Retired” People Are Taking Our Jobs!

PS. unlike Art, I AM NOT a supporter of the local police, esp when they make the laws up as they go.

No James, not Truth. Sorry to burst your bubble.
