Who Will The Democrats Run In Middletown?
By Art Gallagher
Leaders of the Middletown Democratic Party met last night to select a new running mate for Jim Grenafege on the ticket for Township Committee, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
Even though the Dems have 92 members of their party committee, including Grenafege, there was no announcement of who will replace Alex Desevo on the ballot. The APP article indicates that it could take the Dems until September to select a candidate.
Municipal party chairman Joe Caliendo said, “We believe we have a good chance of winning this November, so we want to find a candidate who can really represent Middletown well,” according to the APP.
Ok let’s translate the words of King Caliendo:
They met last night and no announcement was made. Now we hear it may take them until September to find a replacement. He also stated they have been trying to replace Alex Desevo for the past few weeks. So this brings two conclusions:
1. They still have nobody to run.
2. They have so many people to run that it will take until September to sort it all out.
If anyone wants to bet on #2, I’ll give 5,000 to 1 odds.
Over the last two years the Republicans in Middletown have dominated their two shining stars in November and one they thought was their next star. Why would anyone think they would do better King?
Art – I think Caliendo has finally lost it. Somehow, with the disaster that Obama and his administration have been, the beating the state Democrats have taken as Christie steamrolls his reforms over them, the disdain that taxpayers have for greedy unions and the motley crew in his own local party – he feels the Democrats have a good chance to win this year? Give me a friggin break. And thanks to Alex and his antics, anyone they put up will be scrutinized by the press so you know even a DWI will show up. What person would submit themselves to that to take the place of a guy busted for crack?
