   All of New Jersey’s restrictive gun-control laws didn’t save this Lakewood cop. Go figure.

   Americans use firearms over a million times a year for lawful, defensive purposes. In the vast majority of those cases, the firearm is merely brandished and not discharged. Indeed, firearms are used far more often for lawful, self-defense purposes than they are ever used in the commission of crimes.

   The takeaway here is that even a police officer with the best training can’t overcome the element of surprise.
