Vin Gopal Should Get His Facts Straight

By Tony Fiore, Deputy Mayor Middletown Township

In response to Vin Gopal’s article on MoreMonmouthMusings, I believe this email below will set the record straight.

Often times the majority is criticized by the Democrats in Middletown for not listening to Sean’s ideas despite the fact that they are not usually economically or practically feasible.  The notion that Sean’s voice is never heard is nonsense and we do implement his ideas when practical.  We obviously took his direction to use the automated system to announce the Recycling program “not too close” to the announcement of changes to our leave and brush pickup.

While we all can agree that the lateness of the call to some residents was not intended due to a computer glitch, there was never a second call done to apologize for it.   If Mr. Gopal would like to question the integrity of the Tea Party, I suggest he get the facts straight before he does so.

I stand with the Tea Party in working to retire Frank Pallone and Rush Holt from Congress and take great offense to anyone questioning their motives.  It is no surprise to me that Mr. Gopal would write this type of letter after he has been an active fundraiser for Mr. Byrnes and has even hosted an event that he advertised in his newspaper earlier this year honoring special guest Frank Pallone.

At some point, maybe not so close on the heels of this announcement, we should also do that for the recycling pickup.  You may have done it already, but we will probably need to push this pretty hard to get the word out and start getting compliance.

Subject: Fall Brush Collection “Reverse 911”

Mayor and Committee Members,

In speaking with Tony Mercantante yesterday, I have decided to broadcast a “Reverse 911” call this evening to notify residents of DPW’s upcoming brush collection.  An email will also be sent to residents with registered email addresses.  The message is below:

This is a recorded message from the Middletown Township Public Works Department.  The Fall Brush Collection will begin on Monday, August 30th in Zones F and H.  To obtain a complete brush collection schedule, please visit www.middletownnj.org/collectionor call the Brush Collection Hotline at 732-615-XXXX.  Again please visit www.middletownnj.org/collection or call 732-615-XXXX for the current brush collection schedule and updates.  Thank you and have a nice weekend.

As you can see, I am also setting up (with the help of Todd Costello and Jim Dudek) a brush collection hotline that will feature an audible version of the full brush collection schedule.  This hotline, which will remain in effect for all future collections, will also give the caller the option of pressing “0” to speak with a live operator (during business hours).  Our standard postcards are in the process of being mailed to each resident, but may not reach every resident prior to their collection start date.  I wanted to make you aware of this notice in case you are questioned by residents.

Thank you,

Ted

Well Vin that pretty much sums up any credibility you ever tried to have. Check mate.

  2. Vin Gopal said at 10:51 am on October 25th, 2010:

    Mr. Fiore,

please show me “my” newspaper article which advertised an event for Sean Byrnes. There was never anything in any of my newspapers – please show some proof.

And you still haven’t explained why its okay to spend taxpayer money to send out a robocall 2 weeks before an election. Why did the Mayor think that was the best way to spend taxpayer funds? I make it very clear in my e-mail I am a supporter of Sean’s and I am not hiding it so I wouldn’t expect you to be surprised.

    Mr. Gopal,

August 2010 edition of The Lincroft Village News page 4. I understand this is not your newspaper but check your July/August editions of your Monitor newspapers as I have been informed it is also included there. I’d be happy to fax a copy of the referenced advertisement to Mr. Gallagher and to you if you’d like. The RSVP for this event is to [email protected]

How pathetic are the Democrats in the year 2010. Here you have a Republican taking the suggestion of a Democrat exactly as he proposed it and they are so petty and classless, they can’t even acknowledge it. Why Vin, doesn’t the robocall company have a union that you can squeeze political contributions from? How is Joe Vas, one of the other candidates you worked for doing? How many years was he sentenced to? Let’s see, Sharfenberger was named public official of the year and Middletown was named one of the top places to live in the country – I can see why you wouldn’t like him. Let’s see Vas or Sharfenberger – yeah you sure can pick candidates can’t you? Your boy Byrnes is taking union money with one hand and negotiating contracts with the others. As Art has said, thanks to Sharfenberger, Middletown has one of the lowest tax rates, smallest work forces and spends less than anywhere in the state. And God Bless my wonderful Tea Party who are going to exorcize every one of your Democrat hacks next week. Maybe you can hire Pallone and Holt for that joke of a newspaper you sully everyone’s mailbox with.

FIRST, get a grip on your self Vin, there’s nothing wrong about a robo call for brush collection.

SECOND, the Democrats do FAR more devious things

Well Mr. Gopal do you care to respond? Or are you too busy running around defacing or stealing Anna Little or Scharfenberger and Settembrino signs? Careful how you trash the Bayshore Tea Party!! You don’t want to get them even angrier than they are now. I also hear you’re on Holt’s payroll. Who’s next, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid? You liberal Dems and your union buddies are going to get a royal butt kicking next week.

  7. Vin Gopal said at 2:06 pm on October 25th, 2010:

November is Coming – so i’m running around stealing signs and also apparently being on Rush Holt’s payroll, haha, all sounds like fun. No matter how many times you want to say something it doesn’t make it true.

Mr. Fiore – the July and August of editions my publications and any other months are available at http://www.monitornewspapers.com – Please let me know what page the event flyer is on. I don’t mix my personal political views with any of my businesses. Please send a copy of the advertisement from the Monitor.

  8. November is coming said at 2:21 pm on October 25th, 2010:

I said it once genius, that’s all that is needed. Here are some facts: you are managing Sean Byrnes campaign. You have teamed up with the most dishonest, sleazy Dem chair in Monmouth County. He’s the guy who last year put out an ad telling people that the republicans blackmailed their candidate into running for office by threatening his brother’s job. You worked on Joe Vas’ campaign, you know, the guy who is now in jail. You are now on Rush Holt’s campaign payroll. You are running around bragging how you are going to replace Vic Scudiery as the Monmouth County Democrat chair. You have the nerve to trash my tea party because they are not rolling over and accepting your liberal messiah’s America-hating, far left agenda. Well, what say you boy publisher? What about the e-mail from Sean Byrnes that Mr. Fiore posted?

  9. desperationtime said at 2:21 pm on October 25th, 2010:

So now Mr. Fiore comes out of the closet to defend Scharfenberger for Robo calls?
No defense of the 45% increase in taxes during Scharfenberger’s 2 terms?
Please people focus on the important issues.
The Robo calls was just plain stupid to do 2 weeks before an election and plainly a political
ploy to remind everyone he’s the Mayor.
We didn’t elect him either and by all accounts he won’t be elected again.

  10. Vin Gopal said at 2:45 pm on October 25th, 2010:

NovemberisComing – Show me what proof you have that I am on Rush Holt’s payroll and have some courage to use your real name. Do you have a link? An FEC report? Anything? Vic Scudiery is one of my closest mentors and if you think he is sleazy or dishonest then you probably have never met him. I’ll proudly support him for Chairman as long as he chooses to be there, whether its 2 more years or 20 more years.

Maybe you should take a look at your own chairman with Scarinci Hollenbeck who profits off the towns he turns to Republican control, unlike my chairman.

Grow a set and put your name when you post.

  11. November is coming said at 2:59 pm on October 25th, 2010:

Take care of two noodniks at once. From what I can determine, the robocall was made three weeks before the election, not two. It was actually the idea of a Democrat, so unless he is working for the Republicans, there is nothing political about it. Next, I said one of the sleaziest, dishonest Dem chairman in Monmouth County and you assume it is Vic Scudiery? Think municipal chairman, genius. Next, as the union contributions pile up and my kids come home from school telling me about flyers saying, “Vote for candidates endorsed by the NJEA” you can see why the Dems feel the need to grasp at any straw they can. As Art has asked repeatedly: name a place in New Jersey that is run better than Middletown? What did the other poster remind us: lowest tax rate in the region, smallest workforce and least amount of spending per person. All in spite of the Democrats and their union henchman. How much did Byrnes take last year from the unions, $74,000? Swell.

  12. Vin Gopal said at 3:09 pm on October 25th, 2010:

Joe Caliendo is sleazy? Someone who has never profited a day from politics and your municipal chairman Peter Carton profits days and night off Middletown taxpayers as Bond Counsel? Your county chairman profits day and night off Middletown taxpayers? While they fund Gerry’s campaign, their only interest is to get reappointed to their nicely paying gigs.

The robocall is completely political when the Mayor is making the call.

I would ask you again to grow a set and post your real name but cowards don’t do that.

  13. desperationtime said at 5:26 pm on October 25th, 2010:

This is a complete distraction which is the name of the game for those “proud to be Repubs”. So proud of the 45 % tax increase under the leadership of Gerard Scharfenberger’s 2 terms and 3 as mayor. Never elected as mayor only appointed by his party. So proud of the waste and mismanagement of 30 years of Republican control which has put us in the mess we’re in.
Can’t run on you record can you?
Time to bring back the 2 party Democratic process to Middletown.
