Michael Dupont: Prototypical Democrat
By Fred Lehlbach
Excuse me while I diverge from 12th Congressional District to the 12th Legislative District.
In the past few weeks, there has been some speculation that Michael Dupont, Red Bank Councilman, lawyer, Democratic National Committee Member, law partner of Ed McKenna, and Turnpike Authority Board member, may be gearing up for a run against Jennifer Beck for the 12th District State Senate seat she now occupies.
This speculation has been repeated in the hard paper copy-only pages of the Tri-City News and in the cybersphere pages of PolitickerNJ.
Of course, it all started last Spring, when a bit of a kerfluffle was stirred between the 12th LD folks and the all-Democrat Red Bank Borough Council, who just couldn’t understand why, after giving out 4% raises across the board, taking their own salary and health benefits, and raping business visitors to town with excessive parking fees and parking tickets, the Governor of the State of New Jersey would not consider them a hard case and in need of emergency state aid.
Thank goodness the 12th LD folks prevailed, and Red Bank had to learn to live within its means, rather than continue on the state government tit.
Now Councilman/Appointed Attorney/Authority Member Dupont (is that a triple dipper? I’ll just call him “Slash”) has ignited a bit of a war of words with Senator Beck over the Governor’s Report on the Horse and Gaming industries. Why on earth would a Councilman from Red Bank give a fig about the gaming industry and the horse industries? Red Bank has no gambling venues (none that Democrats on Council want to admit to) and as far as I know, there are no horse farms or race tracks in Red Bank. Slash must be eyeing a run at Senator Beck.
When I say that Slash is a “Prototypical Democrat” I base it on his record. Look his record as a Councilman:
He spent almost a year fighting for a ban on plastic bags, eventually settling for recycling bins.
He floated a proposal to tax non-profits, claiming Red Bank has too many of them.
He fought against lowering fees or making parking free. (For the weekend of “Pink Bank”, a week-end long breast cancer fundraising effort!)
He is currently leading a fight against….stickers on street signs.
Yes, dear readers, Slash is up in arms over Cluck-U chicken’s free stickers being stuck on street signs throughout town. “It is a quality of life issue.”
While visual pollution is a problem, I would submit that the excessive taxation; over development; wild, wild west side; and vacant stores are real problems that could benefit from some Borough Council attention.
Unfortunately, Slash seems to have “bought in” to the Democrat agenda: raise taxes, raise fees, and save the environment, at the expense of taxpayers, hard working Americans and small businesses.
Let’s nip this in the bud, people.

I’ve been asking this for years now…please point to me the legislation that Beck has put through. She has done nothing for our district. Nothing. Cassagrande and O’Scanlon have at least been involved, and been engaged with their constituents, but she’s done nothing but attach her name to the initiatives that these two have put forth. The only thing she’s done is run for election to move up.
We need representation and we’re not getting it from Beck. Period.
Here is just a sample of legislation Senator Beck has introduced recently.
To say she has done nothing for this district is either an ignorant statemanet or an outright lie. She consistantly fights or this district and to reform our political system.

Good, this will help prepeare her for next year when we run a conservative, non-career politician against her in the primary.
All incumbents should be worried, it took a long time to run NJ into the ground and both parties are responsible.
Please don’t forget – TollHike Mike DuPont, while a member of the Turnpike Commission, signed the letter to Gov. Corzine requesting the last round of toll hikes. Additionally, shortly after Red Bank had completed replacing most our its vehicle fleet, DuPont issued a letter which suggested, among other things, gutting the brand new fleet and buying all new hybrid vehicles. But hey. it’s not his money….
