Doherty turns down MVC job

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty announced that he turned down Governor Phil Murphy’s offer to be the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission at the Borough’s Council meeting on Tuesday night.

In the video posted by Common Sense for Belmar, Doherty says, “So there’s a little rumor that Governor Murphy offered me the position of Chief Administrator of the Motor Vehicle Commission here in the State of New Jersey.  That is true and I have respectfully declined that offer.”

TAPintoBelmar/LakeComo reports that Doherty did not say if he would stand for reelection in November.

Doherty’s nomination for the MVC position was never submitted to the state Senate for approval.
