MAST gets another Fort Hancock building, Students will have a gym

Osprey Sandy Hook (510x640)MIDDLETOWN – “We’re a long way away from putting a shovel in the ground, but if we’re able to agree on a project plan that meets our needs, and is acceptable to all community stakeholders, it will be a huge step in the future of our program. We really can’t thank Ms. Burry and the Freeholders enough for recognizing our need for a gymnasium, and offering their support.”

That’s what Earl Moore, principal at MAST, the Marine Academy of Science and Technology at Fort Hancok said this week when he learned the Monmouth County Vocational Board of Education and the National Park Service signed a Memorandum of Intent, paving the way  for conversion of Buildings 56 and 23 at Fort Hancock into a new facility.

The announcement, which was signed by all parties involved on Thursday, was made at the Fort Hancock 21st Century Advisory Committee meeting at Thompson Park Friday.

Belmar Mayor “Lawless Matt” Doherty’s first order of business after winning the Democrat primary for Monmouth County freeholder was to promote his record of not raising taxes in the borough.  He’s attempting to put his fiscal credentials up against Republican Freeholder Director Tom Arnone and Deputy Freeholder Director Serena DiMaso who, along with their colleagues on the Board, cut county taxes $4.5 million this year and have kept spending flat since 2008.

Middletown Con Man Pleads Guilty Financial Frauds

Christopher D. Biello, 43, of Coe Place in Middletown, who also uses the alias Christopher Sherman, pleaded guilty to one count of second degree Theft by Deception, seven counts of third degree Theft by Deception, three counts of third degree Impersonation, four counts of third degree Bad Checks, two counts of third degree Theft, one count of fourth degree Forgery, one count of third degree Theft of Services, and one count of third degree Fraudulent Use of Credit Card in Judge Joseph W. Oxley’s Court on Friday, according to a statement by Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Biello admitted he deceived and impersonated clients, obtained numerous credit cards in his victims’ names, engaged in fraudulent loan attempts using the victims’ identities and forged documents.

Couple faces 552 animal cruelty charges for hoarding dogs

John Bennett files an unemployment claim

John Bennett, the part time borough administrator of Lavallette since a month after he left his full time borough administrator position in Oceanport, has filed an unemployment claim, according to a statement by Councilman Stuart Briskey during the Oceanport Borough Council meeting on June 16.

N.J. lawmakers vote to allow medical marijuana for PTSD

Jughandle Brewing company is ready to go!

IMG_0746 (800x557)Jughandle Brewing Company, and owners Pete Artherholt and Mike Skudera of Tinton Falls and Chris Hanigan of Red Bank are ready to open their new Tinton Falls microbrewery on Saturday at noon.

The brewery in the Tinton Falls Centre Plaza on Asbury Ave. held a “soft opening” on Thursday evening to identify and work out any kinks.  The beer is fresh, cold and delicious.

Your favorite blogger sampled the Imperial Stout and English Bitter, both of which are excellent.  The opening menu of beers also includes IPA, RyePA, Saison, and Hefeweizen.
