Monmouth County Clerk Hanlon Announces Archives Week Seminars

MANALAPAN, NJ – Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon is pleased to announce that the County Clerk’s Annual Archives Week seminars will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 16 with three presentations related to this year’s Archives and History Day theme of “New Jersey in Focus: Four Centuries of Monmouth County Women.” The presentations will take place at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan after Archives and History Day, which will also be held at the library on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Hanlon Discovers 35,000 Naturalization Records

Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon recently made an amazing discovery. While settling into her new job and familiarizing herself with the various functions of her office, Hanlon discovered the naturalization records of 34,677 Monmouth County residents who applied for United States citizenship between 1800 and 1991.

Until 1991 when the the responsibility of granting citizenship was transferred solely to the federal Immigration and Naturalization Service, the recording and filing of records from naturalized citizens was the responsibility of the County Clerk.
