8th Safest Town In The Nation
Middletown Township is the safest city in New Jersey, according to the National Council for Home Safety and Security’s annual Top 100 Safest Cities in America report.
NCHSS is a national trade association of home security professionals. They’ve been ranking the safety of America’s communities since 2006 using data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report statistics and their own internal research. Their most recent study includes 764 cities with populations over 50,000 who submitted complete crime reports to the FBI. The number of violent crimes and property crimes per 100,000 people determine the cities’ ranking.

The Middletown Township Public Library is approaching its 100th Anniversary. As part of that celebration the Board of Trustees and Director Kim Rinaldi have are asking Township student artists to participate in a logo contest.
The contest is open to all Middletown students in grades 6 -12. Students are asked to design a new logo that symbolizes the mission of the Middletown Public Library and articulates the true identity of the library as a community center offering opportunities for both education and entertainment. Deadline for submissions will be November 30, 2017. Submissions will be judged by the Library Board of Trustees and one winner will be announced at the December 13, 2017 meeting of the Library Board of Trustees. The winner will receive a $250 prize and community-wide recognition. The new logo will be used on the library’s website, letterhead, flyers, and other library documents.

Crime in Middletown is down for the seventh year in a row, as measured by the FBI’s index crime rate, according to an announcement my Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger, PhD and Police Chief Craig Webber.
Index crimes are the eight crimes the FBI combines to produce its annual crime index. These offenses include willful homicide, forcible rape, robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, larceny over $50, motor vehicle theft, and arson.
Index crimes in Middletown are down 13 percent over last year and 48 percent compared to 2010.
