TRENTON — Former Gov. Tom Kean has some political advice for Donald Trump: Don’t pick Gov. Chris Christie as your running mate if you hope to become president, and start surrounding yourself with better advisers. “If I were to advise him politically, it’s not the way to win the election,” said Kean of talk about a… Read the rest of this entry »
MERCERVILLE, N.J. — A New Jersey administrative law judge on Monday heard two challenges to GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz’s eligibility to appear on the New Jersey ballot, based upon the Texas senator’s having been born in Canada. The judge, Jeff Masin, said he would issue a decision Tuesday on the challenges to Cruz’s eligibility to… Read the rest of this entry »
In the 18th century, Bonnie Prince Charlie, aka Charles Edward Stuart, was the last Jacobite Pretender to the throne of England. The Bonnie Prince thought the English throne was his birthright, so he traveled the countryside picking fights with anyone who disagreed.
Donald Trump, our current Bonnie Prince, acts very much the same. His intemperance and penchant for vengeance is manifest in response to any challenge to him, with no crack too lowbrow, be it McCain’s heroics, Carly’s face or Megyn’s menstrual cycle. Only a Jacobean sense of entitlement could bring a Wharton grad into the gutter. Even Jeb knew the Presidency had to be earned, not inherited or claimed.
ELIZABETH — Gov. Chris Christie said Friday that Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s prediction of “riots” if he was denied the Republican nomination through backroom maneuvering at the party’s convention in Cleveland this summer was just colorful speech, and not to be taken literally. Speaking to reporters at a press conference a in Elizabeth on Friday… Read the rest of this entry »
Most so called experts are saying that unless Donald Trump wins both the Florida and Ohio primaries tonight that he won’t have the 1237 delegates needed to win the 2016 GOP presidential nomination outright. Two of Trump’s three remaining competitors for the nomination are openly angling for a brokered nominating convention.
New Jersey’s presidential primary could make a difference in who is nominated for the first time in decades. Trump is poll obsessed and knows that Governor Chris Christie’s approval numbers at home are in the tank. As The Donald has been saying about Marco Rubio in Florida, Christie couldn’t get elected dog catcher in New Jersey.
Christie has declared himself the most prominent of Trump’s endorsements.
TRENTON — Donald Trump is probably the main reason Gov. Chris Christie didn’t win the Republican nomination for president, his campaign manager told NJ Advance Media. But even though Trump dashed Christie’s White House dreams, Ken McKay says the governor’s controversial endorsement of the real estate mogul should be taken as nothing more than an act… Read the rest of this entry »

Governor Chris Christie publicly suspended his presidential campaign moments ago with the following statement posted on facebook:
I ran for president to say that the government needs to once again work for the people, not the people work for the government. And while running for president I tried to reinforce what I have always believed – that speaking your mind matters, that experience matters, that competence matters and that it will always matter in leading our nation. That message was heard by and stood for by a lot of people, but just not enough and that’s ok. I have both won elections that I was supposed to lose and I’ve lost elections I was supposed to win and what that means is you never know what will happen. That is both the magic and the mystery of politics – you never quite know when which is going to happen, even when you think you do. And so today, I leave the race without an ounce of regret. I’m so proud of the campaign we ran, the people that ran it with me and all those who gave us their support and confidence along the way. Mary Pat and I thank you for the extraordinary display of loyalty, friendship, understanding and love.
Governor Chris Christie has been called, by friend and foes alike, the best political communicator since Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton. Yet, after abandoning his post in New Jersey for the better part of two years in his quest for the presidency, the voters in Iowa and New Hampshire were unmoved by his talent.
As pundits and strategists dissect Christie’s failure, so far none have pointed to the obvious: Christie’s entitlement reform plan. Christie promised a harder future.

A somber Governor Chris Christie congratulated Donald Trump on winning the New Hampshire GOP presidential primary, thanked his family and supporters and announced that he is returning to New Jersey to wait for the final results of the primary before determining whether to continue his quest for the presidency.
Christie said the decision would depend on whether he comes in fifth or sixth in New Hampshire when the final count is announced and on what is best for “my family, my state and for my country.”
