Welle not likely to run for local or state office

In a podcast published last week, former congressional candidate Josh Welle said that if he runs for election again it will likely be for a national office and that it would likely be in 4-6 years.

Last December after he became the 20th Democrat to lose to Congressman Chris Smith, Welle told NJGlobe that he was considering a run for State Assembly  in the 13th district to replace retiring Assemblywoman Amy Handlin.

Monmouth County Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger received the GOP endorsement for Handlin’s seat at a convention in Freehold yesterday.  Democrats are set to endorse their candidates next Saturday.  Welle’s name is not in the mix for Assembly, according to a Democrat who doesn’t want to be known for talking to MMM. Atlantic Highlands Couple Struck and Killed on Route 36

John Grogan, 60, and his wife Barbara Grogan, 59, were stuck and killed by a motor vehicle on Route 36 in their hometown of Atlantic Highlands on Friday evening, according to an announcement by Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

According to Gramiccioni’s announcement, the Grogans were attempting to cross Route 36 at the intersection of Grand Ave. when they were struck by a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, driven by Dylan Rieger, 27, of Belford.

O’Scanlon: Stop the Madness. No More Throwing Taxpayer Money in the Street

After seeing salt covering New Jersey roads today, despite the fact that temperature is not supposed to drop below 37 degrees Fahrenheit over the next few days, Senator Declan O’Scanlon (R-Monmouth) said that “enough is enough” and demanded that the State put an end to the practice of unnecessary brining.

“It’s time for someone to challenge Governor Murphy’s assertion that this is a pennies per mile cost: it’s not. There was simply no way that a .17 per mile number was an accurate reflection of the cost to brine our roads when you account for labor, gas, and equipment. After speaking with a few of local officials we were able to confirm that the actual cost in totality is in excess of $12 or $13 per mile locally – and that is for areas that are more conservative with their usage of salt and brine,” O’Scanlon said.

Employers invited to participate in Monmouth County Job Fair

The Monmouth County Spring Job Fair will be held at Brookdale Community College on April 12.  Employers still have time to register and participate in this free of charge event, Freeholder Deputy Director Pat Imprevetudo announced.

“The County’s Spring Job Fair is an outstanding opportunity for employers from all industries to meet jobseekers with different skillsets and experience.” said Impreveduto, liaison to the Monmouth County Division of Workforce Development. “We are seeking employers from all industries, especially those who have not partaken in prior years.”

YMCA honors Congressman Chris Smith

The New Jersey YMCA State Alliance and other NJ branches of the Young Men’s Christian Association, joined the national organization in honoring Congressman Chris Smith on Wednesday morning in Washington during their YMCA Champions Breakfast on Capitol Hill.

Smith was named a Congressional Champion for, among other things, his efforts to restore the ability of middle class taxpayers to deduct charitable contributions from their federal income taxes.

H.R. 651, a bill authored by Smith and introduced in January, would allow taxpayers to deduct 100% of their charitable deductions from their federal income taxes, even if they opt to use the standard deduction instead of itemizing their deductions. Read the rest of this entry »

Stilton: If Rob Nixon won’t stand up for NJ, who will?

On Wednesday, March 6^th, I attended the SDA monthly board meeting in Trenton after being contacted by several Jackson residents and veterans who were unfairly terminated by Rob Nixon’s School Development Authority, for which is serves as board chairman.

I asked them what I could do and they said “Find the truth”.  I asked them if they had reached out to our council president here in Jackson as he sits on that board and they said yes, but to no avail.

These people have told me that for months they have reached out to Mr. Nixon, but he has ignored them. They are veterans, single moms and individuals who have worked with this agency through multiple political administrations, just as Mr. Nixon has somehow weathered the political storms that sweep through during administration changes.

Authorities Ask For Help in Murder Investigation

Earl “Everlasting” Sanders of Neptune City was shot and killed while driving on Route 18 in Colts Neck last April 29 while driving home from a birthday party at the Freehold Elks Club.

His killer remains at large and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office along with the Colts Neck Police Department and Monmouth Crime Stoppers are asking the public’s support in solving the case.

Matt Woolley and Mike Amoroso, the presumptive Republican nominees for Assembly in the 11th legislative district denounced Governor Murphy’s “reckless state budget proposal”in a statement released on Tuesday evening.

“Despite Governor Murphy’s characterization, there is nothing ‘responsible’ or ‘fair’ about his budget proposal. His irresponsible plan will continue to force residents to flee from New Jersey to low-cost states, amplifying the financial burden for those who remain and already struggle to live here,” said Woolley, 29, of Ocean Township. “$1.2 billion in new spending, in addition to last year’s $2.7 billion budget increase, only hurts the state’s middle class.”

“New Jersey taxpayers should be very worried today,” said Amoroso, 50, the President of the Freehold Township Board of Education. “Instead of adding more taxes on the backs of hardworking residents, our leadership in Trenton needs new, creative talent to finally work toward solving the current tax and spend frenzy.”

Rep Smith: Report Stresses Urgency of Action for Alzheimer’s Prevention and Treatment

WASHINGTON, D.C.— A new report by the Alzheimer’s Association released on Tuesday makes clear the challenge of the increase in cases of Alzheimer’s disease, and the necessity of helping at-risk populations prepare for the upsurge in new cases—and one day prevent Alzheimer’s altogether, Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) stated.

“We’ve come a long way toward understanding and treating Alzheimer’s disease, and are moving ever closer to a cure, but this report lays out the challenge yet before us and the necessity of preparing individuals and families on best practices for medical care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s, Smith said.
