Meissner forms exploratory committee for 2020 U.S. Senate race

Stuart Meissner, an attorney from Bergen County, announced today that he has formed an exploratory committee for the 2020 GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Cory Booker.

Booker, a Democrat candidate for the 2020 nomination to lose to President Trump, has not yet indicated if he will also seek reelection to the Senate.  Under a recent law signed by Governor Phil Murphy, it is now legal for a former Newark mayor to run for Senate and either President or Vice President simultaneously.

Meissner has run against Booker previously.  He was an Independent candidate in the 2013 special election that Governor Chris Christie scheduled for August to fill the vacancy which resulted upon the death of Senator Frank Lautenberg,  Meissner ran on a platform on alimony reform, according to NJ.com

Welle holds a party in his neighbor’s yard without permission.

If you followed our coverage of Josh Welle while he was running for congress last year, you already know that he is a shameless weirdo who suffers from delusions of grandeur.

The stunt Welle pulled in Rumson last weekend is downright bizarre.   He held a party in his neighbor’s backyard without her permission. Kathleen Patchell Manning returned home from church to find that Welle and his guests had set up a party with tables, chairs, grills and a badminton net while she was worshiping.  Manning’s trampoline was moved within her property to be closer to the Welle action.

Arnone Report: Freeholders’ Smart Investments Produce Big Savings

By Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

I hope everyone is having a great summer! I cannot believe we’re just a few weeks away from Labor Day!

The Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering has been extremely busy this summer working on numerous projects throughout the County. As liaison to this department, I am happy to report on the status of several of these projects.

At our August 7th Freeholder Meeting, the Board awarded a $9.2 million contract to Hall Building Corp. to complete interior renovations to the Seaview Building, a former commercial building the County owns next to the Seaview Square Mall. This $9.2 million award is a $2.3 million savings to the County and 22% less than we anticipated.  Read the rest of this entry »

Working Together, We Can End Hunger in Our Community

By Kim Guadagno

Kim Guadagno

Tonight in New Jersey, children will go to bed hungry. Contrary to popular notions about hunger in America, most are not homeless. In fact, most New Jersey families that struggle to put food on the table live in households that have at least one working adult.

In Monmouth County, where I live, and in neighboring Ocean County, one in ten residents don’t know where their next meal will come from, let alone whether if it will be nutritious. One in seven of those ten are children. The anxiety and fear of not knowing is what social services agencies call “food insecurity.”

That is why I am beginning a new chapter in my life this week: leading the effort to end hunger in our community as Chief Executive Officer of Fulfill, formerly the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Fulfill aims to not only help our neighbors experiencing food insecurity today, but to provide them with the resources to become self-sufficient for tomorrow. I am excited join a team of 50 employees and 1,400 volunteers whose mission is to “shorten the line” of those in our communities who are hungry.

Asbury Park Must Lock the Wesley Lake Footbridges Permanently

By Tommy DeSeno

The hot local issue is the 25-year-old practice of Ocean Grove (a section of Neptune Township) locking two footbridges over Wesley Lake that connect to Asbury Park, every night between midnight and 5 am.  Asbury Park, led by councilwoman Eileen Chapman and activist Dani Boglivi Fiori, want Neptune to leave the gates open. Let’s explore the history for context.

Jim Gray, a former Clerk of the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and former Mayor of Manalapan, passed away unexpectedly on July 24 at the Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

Gray served as Clerk of the Board for eight years until 2010.  He was previously Director of Administration for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities from 1995 to 2002, according to NewJerseyGlobe.

Jim was a Manalapan Township Committeeman from 1984 to 1998. He served five terms as Mayor and four terms as Deputy Mayor. He served as police commissioner, planning board member and recreation liaison. He believed that by serving his town and preserving recreational space, he could make Manalapan a better place to live.
