Congressman Chris Smith addressing Colts Neck High School students, May 29, 2018
New Jersey’s only Republican representative in Washington posted a strong fundraising result for the first quarter of the 2020 election cycle.
Congressman Chris Smith raised $236,494 in the quarter and has $212,194 cash on hand, New Jersey Globe reports. Since the 2018 election, Smith has raised $259,388.11.
In the first quarter of 2017 Smith raised $65,277.
Democrat Josh Welle spent $1.8 million trying to unseat Smith in 2018. Smith spent $1.5 million defending his 4th District seat and won by 12%.
Congressman Chris Smith said that the legalistic stonewalling on the part of Garden City Community College “begs the question of a cover-up” of wrong doing or negligence regarding the death of 19 year old football player Braeden Bradforth.
Congressman Chris Smith issued the following statement regarding the Mueller report:
“After almost two years of vigorous investigation, Special Counsel Robert Mueller—aided by 19 lawyers, about 40 FBI agents, intelligence analysts, forensic accountants and others—has found that there was no collusion whatsoever by President Trump (or anyone associated with his campaign) with the Russians to influence the 2016 election. This vindication is good news for America, not so good for the credibility of those who insisted on an almost daily basis that there was ample evidence which demonstrated that the President was guilty of collusion. In the end, Mueller’s Report proves that the truth matters. False charges should have no place in American politics.”
