Hurricane Updates

During a press conference this afternoon Governor Chris Chrisite announced that the Garden State Parkway Southbound will be closed at Exit 98 this evening at 8PM.  Southbound traffic will be routed to Rt 195.

MVC offices in Monmouth County will be closed at 4PM today until further notice.   MVC has extended drivers licenses and registration that expire this month until September 10.

The Governor reiterated the seriousness of the coming hurricane and said that those who ignore evacuation orders are putting their own lives at risk.

Christie expects that we are in for a long haul, at least five days, including the aftermath of the strom.  He urged all state residents to be prepared with enough water, none perishable food, a manual can opener and batteries for flash lights and portable radios to last five days.

Christie will have addition updates after three this afternoon, including preparations for Monmouth County.

Christie: Do Not Go To The Shore, If You Are At The Shore Leave

Governor Chris Christie has declared an State of Emergency in order to mobilize the National Guard and other Emergency Management resources in preparation of Hurricane Irene.  The hurricane is expected to hit New Jersey on Saturday evening.

“From Sandy Hook to Cape May, people should prepare to get to higher ground.”

“We do not folks going to the shore this weekend,” Governor Chris Christie said during his Hurricane Irene preparedness press conference.

The Governor said he is actively considering a mandatory evacuation, but is not there yet.  He has asked that people residing or vacationing on the New Jersey shore voluntarily leave  by Friday mid-day in preparation of the hurricane that is expected to hit on Saturday.

The Governor said he would not issue a mandatory evacuation unless he is convinced that human lives are at risk. However, he asked that people follow his example and voluntarily leave the shore.  Christie said he and his family are cutting short their Island Beach State Park vacation today.

Christie said the storm is anticipated to have an enormous impact on the entire state and that all residents, not just at the shore, should make preparations.

Christie said that if the storm continues on its current track, from a flooding perspective, this storm could be a “100 year event.”

Instructions for hurricane preparation can be found at ready.nj.gov.

Rutgers-Eagleton Releases Stale Polling Data

The Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University released a poll this morning indicating that most New Jersey voters do not think President Obama deserves a second term.

The data Eagleton relied on in the press release is 10 days to 2 weeks old. The polling was conducted between August 9 and August 15.

The poll is meaningless now.    Of course Obama’s numbers were low August 9-15.  S&P had just downgraded our debt on  August 5 and the stock market was in a free fall.

I’d much rather know how New Jersey voters feel about the President now, after the “Death Star” bus tour, the Martha’s Vineyard vacation, Joe Biden’s remarks about China’s population control policies and the demise of the Gaddafi regime in Libya.

The age of the poll will not stop the NJ mainstream media from reporting it as “news.”

Guadagno Signs Her First Bill Into Law

The earthquake and the coming hurricane kept Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno off the front pages this week despite the Governor’s press office’s best efforts to raise her public profile.

Yesterday, for the first time Guadagno, as Acting Governor with Christie out of the state, signed a bill into law.  The press office issued as press release and a video.  One of three videos of the LG released this week.

With Hurricane Irene coming, Governor Christie has shorten his vacation and will hold a hurricane preparedness press conference at noon.  That is sure to overshadow Guadagno’s press conference at 3PM at Cargotec USA in Monroe.

Maybe the administration has decided it needs to do more to promote their pro-business and job growth efforts.  Maybe Christie is getting ready to run for president and wants Guadagno to bet better known since she would be Acting Governor a great deal more often should that happen and Governor should he win.  Maybe Guadagno will enter the race to take on U.S. Senator Robert Menendez .

Something has shifted, that’s for sure.  It’s worth keeping an eye on.

Jacobson lacks the character and brains…

By Dan Jacobson, also published in the August 25, 2011 edition of The triCityNews

This Publisher is unapologetically opinionated in these pages. Often with a harsh, abrasive and profane style.

How do I get away with it? By happily running commentary trashing this newspaper or me personally. We love doing that. It’s what provides balance. Quite effectively.

Currently, I’m running as an Independent for the state Assembly. And I’ve been bluntly stating my positions in these columns the past couple months.

So it’s time to publish some opposition! And I’ve got the perfect source – the reader comments on the website of powerful Republican blogger Art Gallagher. Art lets me post these columns on his More Monmouth Musings site, and my commentary certainly draws some fire. Almost all the comments are posted anonymously.

So in the interest of balance – as well as a creative way to take a week off from this column – I present these opposing viewpoints about the Jacobson for Assembly campaign:

Dan Jacobson lacks the character and the brains to be elected to public office. It goes without saying – and without having to hold a general election – that most voters around here feel the same way.

–Truth

Dan,

There is no doubt you have some great communication skills. However, being pro choice and favoring same sex marriage is your downfall. I suggest you speak with a strong religious scholar. You might just find the missing link in your life.

Momwiilto

What a nightmare this guy’s writing is. And he runs a newspaper?

Besides, he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s trying to disguise his one issue, that of gay marriage. He can’t win, but he’d love to play spoiler.

–Freespeaker1976

Can this guy write a piece without using an expletive?

Reaching for shock value much? Seems as though that is the only chance he has got to garner attention.

–Acollegerepublican

Really? Who cares? Only you. Of all the issues they need to be worrying about, this ranks very near the bottom. I say to all of you NYers, regardless of orientation, go back to NY.

–Abe (In response to a column in support of same-sex marriage)

Dan Jacobson, using your paper the way you are right now as an official candidate is, in my opinion, very unethical.

–Commonsense

Dan who? … (Yawn)

–Parabellum

I don’t understand why he is doing this. Dan should worry about his newspaper.

–Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vic Scudiery (obviously concerned about me cutting into the Democratic vote)

Sounds like he wants to be a spoiler to hurt the GOP….just like that “Tea party” candidate did in that upstate NY Congressional District recently.

–TheDigger (obviously concerned about me cutting into the Republican vote)

Dan has an entertaining paper but he will have ZERO impact on this race. Maybe 10 democrats, 10 republicans and 50 nut jobs will vote for him. I hope he has fun with it because at least that will spice it up a little.

–TR (obviously concerned about me cutting into nobody’s vote)

Do the words “duplicitous rear end schmuck” mean anything?

–FreeSpeaker1976

Another entrant in the “attention whore of the Jersey Shore”. Congrats on being the first “male” entrant Dan.

–Brian

I too was less than enchanted with Jacobson’s potty mouth language, but then; I thought about it for a moment.

BRILLIANT MOVE ART, publishing (this column). It shows what an arse Jacobson is. Take it for what it’s worth, Rush Limbaugh does this a lot. He lets the idiots talk and the more they talk, the more they expose their idiocy.

But then, what do you expect from a rabid left wing loon.

–Freespeaker1976

Is Jacobson talking about himself being an ass? Beyond that, I have never seen such a run-on and worthless writing style. God save us if this fool wins an election.

The only thing he seems to be good for is the sale of Tums for people who need them after they read his bilge.

–Freespeaker1976

So Mr. Jacobson, Michelle Bachman is a wacko? Why, because she has different ideas about religion and social issues then you do? There are a large number of people who agree with her on those issues. In many parts of the Country they are a majority.

Let me add this Michelle Bachman has provided foster care for 23 children. If she is a wacko we need more of them. Have you ever done anything nearly that selfless? I know I sure have not and I doubt you have either. No all you can do is sit back and be a smart mouth. I would ask you if you have any shame but I already know the answer.

From now on I propose you be known by a more appropriate name… Mr. Jackass.

–TR

Right TR – Dan Jacobson is an intellectual lightweight who can only resort to calling people names – especially when they are light years ahead of him in ability and accomplishment. Michelle Bachmann is a brilliant tax attorney who understands the dire straits our country is in. She is a strong leader who has undergone more scrutiny in a week than our Muslim president has undergone in six years. His candidacy is a joke – this just confirms it.

–Proud Republican

…and that idiots like this can be candidates for office is further proof that not only is this country going to implode, it deserves to.

–Brian

(The 11th District where I’m running includes: Asbury Park, Long Branch, Red Bank, Ocean Township, Neptune, Neptune City, Interlaken, Deal, Allenhurst, Loch Arbour, West Long Branch, Eatontown, Shrewsbury Borough, Shrewsbury Township, Tinton Falls, Colts Neck, Freehold Township and Freehold Borough.)

Another Fine Radio Show

We had two great guest on the LaRossa and Gallagher: Real Jersey Guys Radio Show this afternoon.

If you missed it or would like to hear it again, here’s a recording:

Hosted by kiwi6.com file hosting.
Download mp3 - Free File Hosting.

Ian Linker is the only declared candidate for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate race against Senator Robert Menendez next year.  If Linker gets enough signatures to get on the primary ballot he is likely to face State Senators Joe Kyrillos and Mike Doherty in a race for the nomination.  Former Roxbury Mayor Tim Smith is also acting like a potential candidate.

We had a good conversation with Ian, challenging him on why he is starting his political career at such a high level and on his fund raising ability.  I’ll say this for Linker, the $3950 he’s raised so far is more money than Anna Little has raised in her fledgling quest for a rematch against Frank Pallone.

I don’t believe that Linker has a remote chance to be the nominee, and I told him so.  I even bet him dinner at any restaurant in the country, including travel expenses,  that he would not win the party line from any county in the state for the primary.  He took the bet (after the show via facebook), which proves to me he’s gotten in over his head.   I’m looking forward to dinner at Latitudes in Sunset Key on Linker.

Yet, I give Ian a great deal of credit for entering the arena and fighting to make a difference.  I hope his passion survives the ordeal he has chosen.

Listen to the first half hour of the show.  Maybe I’m wrong about Linker.

During the second half hour Oceanport Councilman Joe Irace joined us with an enlightening and informative conservation that included comments on the utter lack of representation Monmouth County gets in the House of Representation from Frank Pallone and Rush Holt, the difference Irace and his colleagues on the Oceanport governing body were able to make, with the help of Senator Jennifer Beck, regarding the establishment of the Fort Monmouth Redevelopment Authority, and the predicament New Jersey’s Horse Racing Industry and Monmouth Park in particular face in these challenging economic times.

Irace makes a compelling case for VLT’s, slots, in the Meadowlands.

Enjoy the show.

Next week, Tuesday the 30th between 5PM and 6PM, our guest will be political strategist Mike DuHaime.  DuHaime is to Governor Christie as Karl Rove was to President George W. Bush and David Axlerod is to President Barack Obama.

We’ll be talking about the 2012 presidential race.   You won’t want to miss that show which will be broadcast on WIFI AM 1460 and on the Internet here.

The LaRossa and Gallagher: Real Jersey Guys On The Radio Show featuring former Senator Dick LaRossa and Art Gallagher is sponsored by Repatriot Radio.
