Oxley’s Nomination To Superior Court Announced By Christie
Governor Chris Christie nominated Monmouth County Republican Chairman Joe Oxley to the Superior Court this afternoon.
Oxley, who will complete his second term as Monmouth GOP Chair upon the election of his successor on June, 12, is a graduate of the University of Maryland and Delaware Law School. He was elected Monmouth County Sheriff in 1995 after defeating William Lanzaro in the GOP primary and served as Sheriff until 2007. He is a partner in the Scarinci Hollenbeck law firm and an adjunct professor at Monmouth University.
Oxley was elected Chairman by acclamation in June of 2008. After narrowly losing control of the Monmouth County Freeholder Board in the Obama election of 08, Oxley brought stability and three straight victorious elections to a previously divided party. He will leave his successor with a 5-0 Freeholder Board and an entirely Republican legislative delegation.
Oxley’s nomination has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee for a confirmation hearing.
Former Senate President John Bennett and State Committeewoman Christine Hanlon are running to replace Oxley as Monmouth GOP Chair.
best wishes, Joe!.. now, attention, legal beagles: assume our vice chair, Diane, is legally our chair til June 12, no?..
Hanlon will win without a doubt
if Diane is officially in charge until June 12??.. and, don’t be too sure..
Hanlon may be a nice person however she is currently a Town Chair person who has neglected to fill 19 of her 42 committee seats. That is horrible.
This is the County Chair position. Neglecting this position will affect the rest of Monmouth not just the 1 town.
And John Bennett has never filled anything but his pockets with corrupt local officials like the former Marlboro mayor.
TR,
Valid critcism. Any Municipal chairman that can not fill that many seats has in the immortal words of Ricky Riccardo some “splaining” to do. That being said I see no evidence her opponent could do better.
Folks,
It’s almost an impossible task to fill all county committee seats. In some districts, there just aren’t enough people interested in politics; let alone enough County Committee people that actually do their job.
There are towns in Monmouth that don’t have ANY county committee seats filled, and may with less than half filled. Just look at the list. Some I would hazard without Chairs.
That’s a picayune, childish attack on Christine. Come on, you have to do better than that. I’ll take Christine anytime over Bennett’s baggage.
Congrats on the new gig Joe; this is a position you have earned through years of hard work, honesty and integrity and I wish you the best of luck, you will be missed.
As for Christine, if I may add to the previous reply: while Christine may have a few empty seats, the seats that are filled in Ocean Twp are filled with good county committee people who work hard, volunteer all of the time, are involved in everything and are just good, honest people who care about good government and helping good Republicans win elections. Both the Club (under Joe Hadden) and the Committee in Ocean Twp are well run, well informed and very active in their community and throughout the entire county. Many other chairs have filled their committees with friends/law partners/business associates/family members/etc in an effort to do nothing more than ensure that they are re-elected chair in their podunk towns to further their own business arrangements; and a significant number of those people planted on the local committees have never volunteered for anything.
As for Bennett, despite my few years of active work for the party, I don’t know Bennett enough to offer an opinion or comment.
@James Hogan,
I will ROBUSTLY second your remarks especially the ones about Chairs stuffing the ballot box with County Committee people who keep failed Chairs in office so that they can “further their own business arrangements.”
After all, I oughta know. It happens in our town and my chair WISHED he were 1/1oth as good as Christine, putting up excellent County Committee people.
Anybody who knows them knows they are both good and caring people.
This is about experience, cooperation and commitment to helping our party members win elections.
What qualification and experience do Bennett and Hanlon bring to the table and how do they compare to each other? Let us make an informed decision.
vote for years of experience and winning elections, plural.. vote on credentials, not emotion.. vote on beyond the moment, with the next two years in THIS county foremost in mind..keep Monmouth, Monmouth.. inform yourself intelligently, and then you will likely vote Bennett..
