How to vote in the Primary Election

If you are a registered Democrat or Republican in New Jersey, you should have received a ballot for the July 7 ballot in the mail by now.

Take some time and read the directions carefully.

In some places there are candidates to vote for on both sides of the ballot. In order for your vote to count, you need to complete and sign the CERTIFICATE OF MAIL-IN VOTER which is attached an envelope. Don’t detach the certificate from the envelope. Insert your completed ballot in the envelope with the certifcate attached and seal the envelope with damp sponge or cloth. Insert the sealed envelope into the larger envelope which has the address of the Board of Elections printed on it. Make sure your name, address and bar code is visible through the window in the return envelope.

You can mail your ballot or drop it off at one of five dropboxes throughout the County.

If someone else is putting your ballot in the mail or taking it to a dropbox, that person is supposed to sign and print their name and address in the designated spot on front of the return envelope. Candidates are not allowed to bring other peoples ballots to the mail or dropbox.

If you are bringing someone else’s ballot to a mailbox or dropbox, you’re supposed to present valid ID. Present your ID to the real or imaginary person checking.

There will be a limited number of polling places open on July 7. Voters will receive a postcard announcing the polling places one week before the election
