Accused Long Branch Shooter Was Arrested Last Week

Marc Zayas, the 18 year old man accused of shooting an 18 years old Neptune City man in Long Branch on November 15, was arrested on Monday November 19 following an intense manhunt, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni announced this morning.

Gramiccioni’s announcement did not say where the arrest occurred. Spokesman Chris Swendeman said Zayas was arrested in New Jersey.

Zayas is in the custody of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending the outcome of a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday before Monmouth County Superior Court Presiding Criminal Judge James C. McGann. The suspect is charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Long Branch Police responded to a call around 12:01 p.m. on the afternoon of Thursday November 15th, for shots fired in the vicinity of 63 Morris Avenue. Police arrived to find an 18-year old male victim suffering from a gunshot to the back. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he is still currently in critical, but stable condition.
