Congressman Chris Smith Endorsed By NJ Building Trades Unions
Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ-4) received the endorsement of the NJ State Building & Construction Trades Council during a ceremony at the Local Plumbers and Pipefitters #9 training facility in Manalapan this morning before approximately 100 union members and managers.
During his remarks, William T. Mullen, President of the 150,000 statewide council, said that all 15 local unions that comprise the council voted to endorse Congressman Smith for reelection. “It’s unanimous,” Mullen declared.
“Congressman Smith has been a long-time supporter of building trades issues that are critical to the lives and well-being of our members and their families,” said Mullen. “He has been a proven defender of strong prevailing wage laws and other workers’ rights initiatives and has demonstrated a bipartisan approach to governing and legislation that is sorely needed in today’s hyper-partisan political environment.”
“Labor is loyal. We are loyal to those who are loyal to us and fight on behalf of our members and New Jersey’s working men and women,” said Michael Maloney, Business Manager, Secretary Treasurer of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 9.
“Congressman Smith has stood squarely with the building trades and all of the people of New Jersey for over 30 years, and we have an obligation to go the extra mile on his behalf,” Mullen concluded. “Our council and all of its affiliated unions are committed to ensuring his reelection in the 4th District this November.”
