Monmouth Voters Overwhelmingly Approve School Spending
By Art Gallagher
Voters approved school budgets in 45 of the of the 54 school district elections held yesterday, according to the unofficial tally posting on the Monmouth County website.
Five of the eight districts that defeated their budgets were in the Bayshore towns of Hazlet, Highlands, Keansburg, Keyport and Union Beach.
Middletown and the Matawan-Aberdeen districts, also in the Bayshore, narrowly passed their budgets. Middletown’s budget passed 3332-3207. Matawan-Aberdeen’s 898-804.
In Lake Como, voters split 49-49.
The Monmouth results appear to mirror the results throughout the state. The Star Ledger is reporting that budgets passed in 301 of the 373 elections results that were available as of 12:33 am this morning.
Just another day in the tax & spend liberal swamp that is New Jersey.
Well, as planned, today l go see a realtor. When my town approves spending it’s surplus to continue free health care for America’s highest paid part-time workers there is no longer a reason to stay here.
Majority rules … where were the voters? Don’t vote, don’t whine….
The last time Howell defeated a school budget, they instituted “pay to play” for all activities (not just sports) at the schools.
The middle school alone cost me $600 in one semester.
The teacher’s union has me right where they want me.
Tommy, please run for the Howell BOE.
OK all you taxpayers you have now been sentenced to permeant tax servitude ….and the amazing part is you sentenced yourselves .I’m sure our kids will not be as foolish ,they will not come back to live here so now we must find a bigger fool to sell our homes to
don’t let the door hit you in the ass
For all of you who believe Government can cut taxes on a local level; especially over night, you must realize that is a near impossibility without a hugh disruption of services.
THAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT I AM FOR ANYMORE SPENDING…
However, in our town, the school board was able to deliver a flat budget without cuts in staff or programs. If they keep that up, that’s a pretty good step in the right direction.
Just one man’s thoughts…
Right, drive out all the productive tax-payers, good strategy!!!
The government wastes a hell of a lot of money and spending should be cut in a lot of places BUT THE LAST PLACE IT SHOULD BE CUT IS IN LOCAL SUBURBAN SCHOOL DISTRICTS.
