How About A Celebrity Candidate In the 13th?!

Now that the Monmouth Democrats don’t have a candidate officially running for Senate in the 13th district, maybe they should take a page from the Burlington County Democrats and get a celebrity to run. In case you missed it, former Olympian and former music video star Carl Lewis is running for Senate as a Democrat in the 8th legislative district.

As much as I would like to see Tea Party Democrat Mark Falzon muck up the works by waging a write in campaign for the 13th Democratic Senate nod, the district has numerous celebrity residents that would make terrible candidates but be great for blog traffic.
Jon Bon Jovi has strong Democratic credentials. He’s hosted fund raisers for Al Gore and Barack Obama at his bee farm in Middletown.
Bruce Springsteen has recently become a policy wonk. The anti-poverty activist has estates in Rumson and Colts Neck. If he’s registered to vote in Rumson he can run in the 13th. If Bruce is registered to vote in Colts Neck, we’ll know who the third vote is for Democratic Township Committee candidate, our friend Rick Ambrosia, is in November.
Film maker Kevin Smith hails from Highlands.
Drummer and real estate developer Max Weinberg was a trustee of the Monmouth Conservation Foundation before subdividing his Middletown estate.

I think he makes an absolutely fabulous candidate.
Art, I would council any Tea Party candidate to not run as a write in candidate. This obviously includes myself. We just don’t have the “machine” for that type of effort.
A horse of another color is a third party ballot position, however….i.e Constitution or Independent Parties. Those petitions don’t have to be filed until June…..I am getting plenty of e-mail and phone traffic to do just that, including a die-hard Monmouth county GOP figure. What has this Kyrillos done in the past to foster such interest? I am surprised by this.

I agree with TR – we wouldn’t have Chris Christie if it weren’t for Joe Kyrillos – CC is the right man at this time with all the problems we face in NJ.
Mark would better serve Tea Party and Conservative interests (lowering taxes, reducing government spending) by channeling all efforts to dump dem liberals – running against a friend only helps divide Conservatives and actually serves to possibly elect a liberal dem. It also wastes valuable resources which could otherwise go to challengers against current liberal officeholders in other legislative districts.
We need to take back control of this state legislature so Christie can implement his much needed and long overdue reforms, starting with the “Toolbox”.
I would suggest that the Tea Party and other Conservatives would be better advised to target five or ten incumbent liberal legislators and go after them. Now that would make a real impact!
Jon Stewart also has a house in the Chapel Hill area of Middletown, not sure if he registered to vote in NJ though.

The you have the celebrities that want taxes raised but take advantage of every loophole they can to avoid taxes.

To Jimmy Hogan…and she caught a whole bunch of crap from the Queen of Monmouth Republicans, Judith Stanley for that stance since Judith ALSO took advantage of the LEGAL use of the farmland tax break.

These people meet the legal requirements. It is not a breach of the public trust. You want to point fingers . Point at the legislature who can’t write a friggin statute that works.
There is no one out there who would not take advantage of this or any tax break that they are entitled too if they can. I will admit I will take any legal tax break I can qualify for. ( plus I always wanted to keep bees but my wife won’t let me maybe she would change her mind if I got a tax break.)
What is pathetic are the people who push for government to raise taxes to pay for all sorts of programs that do not work or for things like public TV AND THEN try to minimize their taxes any way they can.
If they think I need to pay more taxes then they should be willing to pay all their taxes.

Do we all have short term memories? The D’s in Burlco obviously took notes from the John Runyan school of strategery. It is not necessary to really know anything as long as you are famous.
As for the tax “loopholes” used by bee farmers and others, should they also choose not to take dependent deductions too in order to comply with your sense of honor? Would you be willing to do that? They are all equally appropriate tax deductions. Just because they are in a situation to take the deduction does not make them hypocrites anymore than complaining about double dipping, but then supporting Chris Christie or the Monmouth GOP who continue to appoint double dippers to new positions. It’s silly to argue that they are hypocrites, especially from those who support Dave “It’s not illegal to run 5K’s when I’m on a disability pension, so therefore, ok” Rible. Change the law and then gripe about those who violate it. Otherwise you are just spitting into the wind. Just come common sense from those in the peanut gallery.
Hey…I don’t mind the farm loophole..hell, as long it keeps the developers from buying up the land, then I’m all for it. And (I can’t believe I’m even saying this..) but I agree with TR ( OMG)…if you can take advantage of the legal loophole, then go for it. I like open space and if it costs a little to keep it open, then God bless. Also, on most places like that, they pay a hefty property tax bill anyway. My point was that Beck would sell out anyone to get elected. Even people that helped her along the way, such as Judith Stanley. She’s not a very nice person.
You don’t think its hypocritical to advocate for more govt. spending and higher taxes and then take steps to (legally) avoid taxes? I do.
As far as Rible is concerned if it is not illegal to run a 5k whan you are on a state disability pension it should be.
If you had a private disability pension and did that you would be prosecuted for fraud.

Finally Double dipping hurts no one. if they retired and someone else took the “double” position you would still be paying the same amount.
the problem is not that people double dip. The problem is that the law is written so public employees can retire at a young age.

You are 100% correct. She had done nothing for her constituents. She is nothing more than a publicity hound.
In my opinion (and we know what they say about opinions) her political career, with the new redrawn lines, is in jeopardy. That, coupled with her anti-equality stance in marriage (didn’t she just enjoy equality with her second marriage?) will make it difficult for her to prevail; especially when the opposition is from the largest town–Freehold Township.
