The Democratic Line Up
By Art Gallagher
The Monmouth County Democratic Organization held their Mini-Convention at the Carpenters Union Hall in Red Bank this morning. The following candidates were nominated:
For Freeholder: Incumbent Amy Mallet of Fair Haven and William Shea of Howell.
For Surrogate: Michael Steinhorn of Rumson. Steinhorn ran for Council in Rumson in 2008. He’s a realtor, a CPA and has a law degree from Brooklyn Law School.
The 11th Legislative District:
For Senate: Ray Santiago, a Freehold Township Attorney who challenged Barbara McMorrow in the Freehold Township Committee race last year.
For Assembly:
Marilyn Schlossbach of Asbury Park?
Schlossbach is the owner of several Jersey Shore Restaurants. According to her facebook pages, Schlossbach is from Belmar and lives in Normandy Beach. Normandy Beach is in the 10th legislative district.
Monmouth County Democratic Vice Chair Amy Quinn told MMM that Schlossbach owns a home in Asbury Park and that her residency will be in Asbury Park before the filing deadline.
Vin Gopal of Long Branch.
The 12th Legislative District:
The Monmouth County Democratic Organization is deferring endorsements to the other counties in this district. Bob Brown of Old Bridge is running for Senate. Catherine TinneyRome, also of Old Bridge is running for Assembly. If there is a second Assembly candidate, the Monmouth Democratic Organization is not aware of who that might be at this time.
13th Legislative District:
For Senate:
Christopher Cullen of Hazlet. Cullen served on the Hazlet Township Committee and as Mayor in the 1990’s and early 2000’s.
For Assembly:
Former Hazlet Mayor Kevin Lavan and Former Middletown Township Committeeman Patrick Short.
The 30th Legislative District:
For Senate: Steve Morlino of Howell.
The Monmouth County Democratic Organization did not endorse any Assembly candidates in the 30th. Rabbi Howard Kleinhendler of Lakewood and Pt Pleasant Borough Councilman Shaun O’Rouke are expected to receive the nominations from Ocean County.
Looks like a who’s who list of former has beens. Look at the 13th for example. Cullin, Lavin and Short. Talk about a lineup of has beens who have been booted out of office by the people and are now seeking higher office.
Pat Short – are you kidding me? That buffoon again? Can’t wait for his baggage to come out. Again. I understand that it came down to Short and a brain dead guy in an iron lung and while the latter blew Short out of the water in the intellect category, Short won with a slightly stronger pulse.
Well, if Patrick Short is short on intellect, than I shudder to think of the IQs of the members of the current Middletown Township Committee as the few good ideas they put forth were first suggested by Short.
You folks say more about yourselves with your pea-brained comments-or does the Christie patronage coffee klatsch of Middletown have so little to do?
Go back to sleep Barbara. The garbage trucks are coming back to Swimming River Road.
Let me see, Patrick Short …I hear he ran a household of five at 16 after his mother died. West Point graduate, three (3) Master Degrees, accepted at Chicago School of Business, taught economics at the college level, highly sought after project manager in New York City, managing multi-million dollar projects. .. Lacking intelligent??? Seems pretty smart to me. Why isn’t he on our side???
Well Peter Carton did interview Pat Short to try to get him to run as a R in 2008 – he did not.
If Carton chose not to run Short, I wouldn’t blame him. Short voted several times in favor of COAH.
Let’s not forget Short’s shady past. I was one of the people he duped into signing a petition under false pretenses that was later thrown out in court. He’s lucky he didn’t do jail time.
If you search the archives of the Independent from 2007 you will find a humorous if disgraceful article on the obscene e-mail that Short sent to the rest of the town council. I say humorous because they had to use ****** to represent his vulgar language. It is disgraceful because this is the way he conducts himself. He is a whack job who should stay in hibernation.
“Joe” is lying. Pat Short was already on the committee as a Democrat in 2008. Could this be the same “Joe” who was involved in Short’s petition scandal?
Just be glad that in the 30th Morlino is running. He ran for Freeholder and got humiliated and lost. Ran for Senate and got hammered – he lost his own district right in Howell. Enough said. We should ask Vic if he can just keep running this solid loser year over year. Just a horrid individual as well. Mean, snarly and nasty.
Marilyn Schlossbach is a wonderful person , a great chef and serves fabulous food in her restaurants . However she belongs in the kitchen not in the Legislature. We have had our belly full of inexperienced politicians holding office starting with the guy in Washington , No offense Marilyn.
“she belongs in the kitchen”…well, there’s a tried and true republican philosophy. Very typical. Not too sexist…are we Hank?
Sorry Kathleen, but you don’t have to go as far as Swimming River to find people that have your number. Only in the alternate universe of Middletown Republican cronyism can people question the integrity and honesty of a West Pointer like Short and expect people to believe it. Time for the governor to institute IQ tests.
Ah, Rick Ambrosiar and the old liberal standby. When you have nothing of substance and nothing to support an argument, scream sexism, or racism, or every Democrat’s favorite, class warfare. That’s why you guys are going to get slaughtered in November. Nobody buys that BS anymore.
Rick, sorry to disappoint you but my comment has nothing to do with sexism.A little leaguer does not belong in the Majors. There is a natural progression you start with Little League, then to the Babe Ruth League on to Junior Varsity then Varsity of to the Minor League then maybe to the Majors. If you don’t understand the message ” NO EXPERIENCE. Not even as a ” Community Organizer ‘
Sorry Hank…that doesn’t fly. If it did, then you would be against having Casagrande in the Assembly since she had no prior experience with anything. I doubt that though. Maybe its just what we need…someone with common sense instead of the seasoned, experienced politician who does nothing…like, say, Jen Beck.
really.. if we don’t sweep this year, we frankly don’t deserve to be in charge..now, let’s get out there and paint the county and new districts an even darker “red”!
If we don’t sweep it will be because some Freeholders have refused to board the Curley train which has a station stop at Brookdale
Rick ,We have had it with inexperienced Politicians starting with the ” community organizer” and his on the job training. He doesn’t have a clue as to know what it is to even make payroll on Friday.
Drop the “we” Hank…maybe you should just speak for yourself. Again, with your logic, Casagrande should never have run for office. Do you like her? I bet you do. And, she had no experience at anything. So, you can sidestep that issue if you want, but it still doesn’t fly.
And to use your own logic, then Marilyn would be perfect since she supplies payroll to a few hundred employees every Friday. Maybe you should just take a step back from the Kool Aid Trough for a while and look at people without an R or D after their name and see what they can get done.
( yeah, right).
blessed/cursed- or if R’s don’t sweep maybe it will be because the public is sick and tired of your sense of self entitlement to the riches of Monmouth County. Good luck and don’t choke on your victory champagne.
[…] Democrats did the best they could, but only put up nominal opposition in the Monmouth legislative districts and on the county […]
