Traffic Safety Enhanced in Tinton Falls

Public safety will be enhanced and traffic will flow easier on Asbury Ave between Garden State Parkway exit 102 and Shafto Road in Tinton Falls thanks to a new traffic signal that was activated yesterday by Freeholders Tom Arnone and Serena DiMaso and employees of the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering.

“Monmouth County’s first traffic improvement for 2017 is the activation of the traffic signal on Asbury Avenue at Fox Chase and Cannonball Drive,” said Freeholder Arnone. “The signal will improve overall safety for motorists and pedestrians while allowing for better traffic flow and operational efficiency at the intersection. We appreciate the support and patience of local residents and the Tinton Falls officials as we worked to improve public safety in the area.”

The new signal at the intersection of Asbury Ave (County Road 16) and Fox Chase Drive/Cannonball Drive completes a county project that has been in the works since the fall of 2011. Permits from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority were acquired before the Monmouth County Shade Tree Commission cleared trees along the road and utility lines were moved.

The intersection provides access to the Fox Chase development, the Wayside Fire Company and the Tinton Falls Emergency Medical Serviced-South facility.

Construction started last Spring and included the installation of a fully-actuated traffic signal and the addition of pedestrian crossing signals. Upgraded signing and pavement markings, minor roadway widening and ADA compatible sidewalk and crosswalks were also installed.

“Residents of the Fox Chase development and the volunteers of the Wayside Fire Company will now have an easier time negotiating the Asbury Avenue intersection because of these welcome upgrades and the improved traffic flow,” Freeholder DiMaso said. “This is an LED traffic light that costs less to operate and is eco-friendly. The set-up also has an eight hour battery back-up that will keep the intersection operational in the event of a power outage.”

The $640,000 project continues the safety enhancements along Asbury Ave in Tinton Falls. An earlier Asbury Ave project improved drainage and line of sight at Essex Ave and Pine Street.
