Expected Pot Delivery Turns Into Armed Robbery In Atlantic Highlands

Two Atlantic Highlands residents were surprised on Thursday when the the guys they ordered marijuana from pulled a gun and pepper spray, robbed them of $265 and fled the scene.

The victims, who were not named in Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni’s press release, called the Atlantic Highlands Police Department. The Sea Bright Police Department spotted the robber’s vehicle on Ocean Avenue a short while later and followed the perps into Rumson. The Atlantic Highlands PD arrested the men in Rumson.

Najzhir Islam, 19, of Rhode Island Street in Jackson, and Juwan Williams, 18, of Cherry Street in Tinton Falls, are each charged with one count of first degree Armed Robbery and second degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Both men are being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township, on $250,000 bail with no 10 percent option, as set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Honora O’Brien Kilgallen. The men were also ordered to have no contact with their victims, and they may not return to the scene of the crime should they gain release on bail.

There were no drug charges reported by Gramiccioni. Captain David Rossbach of the AHPD declined to say if the Atlantic Highlands residents were charged.

Islam and Williams face up to 20 years in state prison if convicted of Armed Robbery and 5-10 years if convicted of Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.
