Matawan-Aberdeen teacher arrested for talking dirty to students
A substitute teacher at Matawan-Aberdeen High School was arrested on Thrusday and charged with engaging in sexually explicit conversations with two female students, ages 15 and 17.
Philip Riveley, 29 of Woodbridge, was charged with two counts of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $150,000 cash bail.
The arrest is the result off an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Bureau and the Matawan Police Department. The Woodbridge Police Department assisted in Riveley’s arrest.
If convicted, Riveley faces a prison term of five to 10 years.
He was NOT a Matawan teacher. He was a substitute teacher hired from a service.
The school system out sources their substitutes.
Please get your facts straight.
Marie,
Did he teach at Matawan-Aberdeen High School? He’s a Matawan-Aberdeen teacher.
Regarding your distinction of a substitute or a ‘real” teacher, as Hillary Clinton might say, What difference does it make?
lol good for him
I guess its the same as a”real” reporter or one who tries to act like one.
He was an employee of a substitute service not the school district.
There is a difference between a real teacher and a substitute, the level of education being one of them. A real reporter would know that.
I guess I shouldn’t expect anything more from
a third rate flyer trying to act like a news source.
a substitute could also be a REAL teacher trying to find a permanent job..check your facts
The substitute us hired and screenef by a substitite service vetting thrm on behalf of the svool districts that hire the substitute setvice. They are paid by thwvservice not the school district. BIG DIFFETENCE.
I hope the spelling errors were a result of fat finger syndrome on a smart phone, and not the kind of education you received.
That said, Teacher – Matawan. he taught at Matawan. Such crying and parsing of words is only an attempt to disassociate Matawan from bad behavior.
And, as Sue says below via Facebook, he was around kids.
Attacking the writer only makes you look desperate.
From a parent perspective, if my kid is going to a Matawan-Aberdeen school, he’s being taught by school district teachers. If I want him schooled by a contractor, I take him to Kumon or home-school him
The place is called Source 4 Teachers. It’s Director is H. James Wasser, former superintendent of the Freehold Regional HS District.

@”The place is called Source 4 Teachers. It’s Director is H. James Wasser, former superintendent of the Freehold Regional HS District.”
Make that DISGRACED AND BANISHED former superintendent. Remember, “Call me DOCTOR!!!”?
And if a district like Matawan-Aberdeen is using unlicensed teachers even as substitutes from a fully discredited source like Wasser, double shame on them!
Obviously no one does their research. This teacher happens to have a master’s degree in teaching specifically. Our justice system also states innocent until proven guilty. From the looks of it, it’s a case of he said she said until there is concrete evidence.
The reporter stated the teacher is a substitute. Such mean comments toward the reporter are unnecessary. Grow up.
