I am not sure if our system makes the process more political or less. while Judges do not need to campaign to the general public every few years the process does give a tremendous amount of say to politicians on the issue of who gets appointed.
There are plenty of qualified attorneys who have had their names put forward as judicial candidates whose nominations are in limbo because of politics. One benefit to an elected judiciary is that there would be no vacancies.
This is a dumb system because it is based on mob control and not “justice”. There is only one solution. Throw it in the garbage and take the easily corrupted left/right government out of justice. It should be replaced with a totally private, competitive, voluntary system which will let the “little” people determine who gets to use the power of the military to protect everyone’s natural rights. (I know – it would require State and Federal Constitutional amendments).
