    Interesting piece. Only thing I disagree with is that with the outright full consolidation of municipalities being hard to accomplish for a wide variety of reasons, I believe the merger of individual departments between 2+ municipalities is still doable and a good way to save $$$. Police, DPW etc. That can also be a first step towards possible full consolidation in the future.

    The goal should not be “consolidation”, the goal should be lower cost. Consolodation can raise costs. When my school district looked into it there were issues, like union employees would get the best terms from the component contracts. This effectively raised overall costs. Many small municipalities and small districts are more cost efficient than larger ones. Bigger is not better, and certainly not cheaper in NJ.

    This is a discussion that should be on the “All About Sea Bright” Facebook page. We are a woefully small town gearing up for big time tax increases because we have a a leadership that is overwhelmed, and perhaps corrupt.
