Congressman Chris Smith was one of 44 Republicans in the House of Representatives to vote in favor of the $2000 stimulus checks today. The measure, which was demanded by President Trump last week, passed on the House floor, 275-134.
“The increase of Covid-19 relief checks to $2,000 coupled with yesterday’s extension of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), expanded unemployment benefits and other assistance are justified and necessary to assist tens of millions of people devasted by the Pandemic and like previous Covid relief packages are a bridge to a post-Covid world,” Smith said.
The bill now goes to the Senate where its fate is uncertain.
President Trump signed a $900 billion stimulus package which included $600 direct payments to taxpayers on Sunday.
