Smith Endorsed by National Wildlife Federation Action Fund
Congressman Chris Smith has been endorsed by the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund, his campaign announced.
A leading national environmental organization, the National Wildlife Federation works to promote clean water and energy initiatives and advocates for solutions to protect and restore wildlife habitats.
“Throughout his time on the Hill, Rep. Chris Smith has emerged as a champion for ensuring clean water, restoring wildlife habitat, and bolstering the resilience of coastal communities to hurricanes and other severe weather,” said Collin O’Mara, President and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund.
“New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District is fortunate to have such a common-sense conservation champion and wildlife advocate in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund is proud to endorse Rep. Smith for re-election,” O’Mara said.
“New Jersey’s beaches and parks are a great treasure that must be protected from the dangers of pollution, which can have lasting and devastating impacts to our environment, our commercial activity, and our children and families,” said Rep. Smith.
Smith has an extensive record of fighting against pollution and other threats to New Jersey’s environment. He strongly opposes oil and gas drilling off New Jersey’s coastline which endangers the environment as well as fishing and tourism industries that are vital to the local economy.
“Ten years ago, the BP oil spill – the largest in American history – showed us the serious risks that offshore drilling poses to coastal communities. It is critical we keep our coastline free from offshore drilling to prevent any harm to our ocean and beaches, and I look forward to continue working diligently to ensure we keep New Jersey clean for everybody,” Smith added.
The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund praised Smith for cosponsoring the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act and the Great American Outdoors Act which permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
Additionally, he has cosponsored numerous bills that would prohibit any exploration and development of oil and gas in U.S. coastal waters, especially along New Jersey’s beaches. Smith is also the author of the Accelerating Veterans Recovery Outdoors Act to provide veterans with greater access to federal lands for medical therapy.
Rep. Smith represents the Fourth Congressional District, which includes several Jersey shore towns.
