Fligor Not Ruling Out Running For Mayor Of Atlantic Highlands

Councilman F. Lou Fligor

Seven term Atlantic Highlands Councilman F. Lou Fligor told MMM that he has not ruled out running for mayor of the borough as an Independent candidate this year.  He has until June 4 to file nominating petitions.

First elected to the council in 1995 as a Republican, Fligor won his seventh term running as an Independent in 2016 with the support of a bi-partisan coalition led by former Mayor Fred Rast and local Democrat Party Chair Regina Hawley Keelen.

Fligor and former Councilman Jake Hoffman lost the support of the local Republican committee in 2016, then chaired by Jane Frotton, after a bitter mayoral primary in 2015.  Fligor lost the 2015 primary for mayor to Jack Archibald.  Archibald was defeated by Democrat Randi LeGrice that November.  Frotton banished Fligor and Hoffman for not supporting Archibald.  In November of 2016, Fligor and Republican Stephen Boracchia defeated Hoffman, who was running with Fligor as an Independent, and Republican Sue Tidswell. (Yes, we should have a chart, but the MMM graphics department is closed for the weekend)

Fligor did not seek the Republican nomination for mayor this year.  Former Henry Hudson Regional High School Board President Loretta Gluckstein is running unopposed for the GOP nomination in the June 4 primary.  Mayor LeGrice is seeking a second term and is unopposed in the Democrat primary on June 4.
