Geller to keynote Monmouth GOP convention

Adam Geller, President of National Research and one of President Donald Trump’s pollsters, told MMM that he will share insights into the national political environment heading into the 2020 presidential election, as well as insights into the impact of the Monmouth GOP makes beyond our county borders, when speaks to the annual Monmouth County Republican Nominating Convention on Saturday morning at iPlayAmerica in Freehold Township.

The County Committee will formally endorse the Republican primary nominees for Assembly from districts 11, 12, 13 and 30, as well as the GOP Sheriff and Freeholder candidates.

Assembly Candidates:

In the 11th District, Matt Woolley and Michael Amoroso are running to unseat two term Democrat Assembly Members Joann Dowey and Eric Houghtaling.

The 11th distirct includes Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Colts Neck, Deal Eatontown , Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Interlaken Borough, Loch Arbour Village, Long Branch City, Neptune City, Neptune Township, Ocean Township, Red Bank, Shrewsbury Borough, Shrewsbury Township, Tinton Falls, and West Long Branch.

12th District incumbent Assemblymen Ron Dancer and Rob Clifton are seeking to be reelected.  Dancer and Clifton will also be seeking support from the County Committees in Burlington, Middlesex and Ocean.

 

In the 13th, Serena DiMaso is seeking her second term in the Assembly and Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger is seeking the nomination to replace retiring Assemblywoman Amy Handlin.

Scharfenberger gave MMM a sneak peek at his prepared remarks. Let’s just say that Gerry intends to go to Trenton to make an impact.

Sean Kean and Ned Thomson are seeking new terms representing the 30th district in the Assembly. Thomson is seeking his second full term after having been selected to replace Dave Rible in 2017. Kean has served in the legislature since 2002.  He represented the 11th district in the Assembly from 2002 through 2008 and in the Senate from 2008 until 2012.   He returned to the Assembly in after the 2011 election after his residence in Wall Township was redistricted into the 30th which has been represented by Robert Singer in the Senate since 1993.

Sheriff Shaun Golden was first elected in 2010 after being appointed by Governor Chris Christie to replace Lt Governor Kim Guadagno, the previous sheriff.  He was reelected by wide margins in 2013, 2016.  Golden has been Chairman of the Monmouth GOP since 2014 and is frequently mentioned as a potential challenger to Governor Murphy in 2021.  The Democrats are reportedly having difficulty recruiting a serious challenger to Golden’s reelection.

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone and Nick DiRocco of Wall Township will be the nominees for Freeholder.

Arnone will be seeking his fourth term on the Freeholder Board.  Since 2008, due in large measure to Arnone’s leadership, the Monmouth County Budget has declined by almost 10%, $50 million, and held reasonably steady.

DiRocco is a Wall Township Committeeman, having served as Mayor and Deputy Mayor.  He was a member of Governor Chris Christie’s staff in Trenton and Senator Jeff Chiesa’s staff in Washington.

The doors open at iPlayAmerica at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning with the convention scheduled to start at 9.
