Congressman Chris Smith: Gay marriage and adoption is settled law

Josh Welle is lying about Chris Smith–again

The Washington Blade, a website that claims to be America’s LGBT News Source, this morning posted a video, which they claimed was exclusive, which purports to represent Congressman Chris Smith telling students at Colts Neck High School that he thinks children would be better off in orphanages than they would be if adopted by a same-sex couple.

The Blade’s video is not exclusive nor does it represent what Congressman Smith said to the Colts Neck students that morning.

MMM attended the student assembly in Colts Neck on the morning of May 29 and recorded Smith’s 53 minute appearance.  The entire unedited recording, with only Smith’s photo added, is here:

MMM will share the original unedited audio, directly from the phone it was recorded on, via text with any media outlet that requests it.

The Blade’s video starts off with script saying the Rep Chris Smith was caught on tape saying that orphanages are better for kids than gay adoption. Smith never said that. Not even in the Blade’s non-exlusive video.

At the end of the Blade video, Smith was referring to his earlier answer on the orphanage vs gay couple issue (video above) when he was cut off by another questioner.

Not long after the Blade posted the video and their accompanying dishonest narrative, Josh Welle emailed a fundraising appeal that referred to the Blade video.

The Smith campaign responded with a statement that characterized the Blade video and a political dirty trick:

A video that can best be described as a political dirty trick presents a false narrative of Congressman Smith’s discussion with students at Colts Neck High School last May. The video, presented as a “gotcha moment” and widely circulated by his Democrat political opponent and his supporters as a way to raise money, includes only part of Smith’s remarks and purposely cuts out his comments that do not fit with the lie that is being presented.

Smith, who released the full one-hour tape, struck back hard today pointing out the distortions and calling on the media to reveal who released the doctored tape and for his Democrat opponent to stop raising money on the lie.

“Anybody can twist your words and make false representations when they splice up a tape,” said Smith who is strongly favored to win his reelection race this year.

“It is despicable that someone thought they could score political points by distorting the truth and raising false questions about my record and the full range of topics discussed at the assembly.”

At no time does Smith express the view that children waiting to be adopted or in foster care are “better off in an orphanage” than placed with same sex parents.

The Smith campaign’s statement continues:

Earlier in the full tape a student says to Smith, “So you think orphanages and foster homes would be in the better interest of the child?”. Smith responds, “No. Lord no.”

In the discussion with students, Rep Smith explained that adoption requires the work of many agencies, including faith-based adoption agencies.
Smith, who is a co-author of the original federal adoption tax credit which is now up to $13,000 per family, also said the gay adoption issue was “legally moot.”

“She is free to adopt,” said Smith when asked if a woman in a gay relationship could adopt. “The issue is legally moot at this point especially with the Supreme Court decision, she’s free to adopt,” he said.

Also left out of the doctored tape is Smith’s expressed concern that some state and local governments are excluding adoption agencies that are run by the Catholic Church which have been forced to close their doors owning to their belief that the best interest of the child means a child deserves to be placed with a mother and a father, if at all possible.

Having worked on efforts to help expedite the adoption process for constituents and helped secure adoption tax credits, Smith understands the difficult process, the long wait times, and high costs involved in adoption.

He knows that adoption is an urgent issue that affects over 400,000 children in foster care and potentially more as the opioid crisis puts more children’s lives in danger and believes that all resources, including faith-based ones, are needed to help these children.

I find it mildly amusing that MMM is squawking about dishonesty and lying.

The lack of awareness here is telling, too, with all the fist pounding about “settled law,” the exact same tack that Brett Kavanaugh is using re abortion in his Supreme Court hearing.

In both cases we have two committed idealogues who are doing their damnedest to obscure their actual beliefs, trying to throw up smoke and hope nobody actually pays attention to their past comments and actions.

Listening to the full audio actually makes things worse for Smith, because it only makes it clearer that the Congressman finds LGBTQ adoption harmful to children.

That truth is transparent, bigoted, and ugly enough. It can’t be spun away.

Blah, Blah, Blah. You and the left continue to take things out of context in a desperate attempt at pulling straws.

advising the congressman, which I am not, I would not bother trying to explain my deeply- held beliefs to those who will never care or understand. I would instead focus on all the good I have done for millions of people, all over the world. Which Chris has. Forget the haters who have no tolerance,(which they always want us to afford to them,) for anyone but themselves. If one would choose a culture of life over a culture of death, great, come on board. If not, stop, let it go, and get out your base, and thinking independents, who actually measure a person by their personal decency and performance in office- not hot- button, hate- laden, loud, tired, sound bites..

You are 99% correct Chris is doing that I believe. However, when Liberals take things out of context like Kamala Harris did with Bret Kavanaugh (giving her 4 pinnochios) I think the correct move is to get the proper context out there.

The lying left still won’t believe it, but those in the middle are owed an explanation. That’s what the left is doing, trying to move the middle and far too many people believe fake headlines. Just a thought.

Rob, get over yourself. Smith is an effective Congressman who has done more than any of the other radical, left wing D members of Congress from NJ. e has certain beliefs like we all do and in this case they DOCTORED the tape to create a lie. How sad. You people make me sick that you LIE to defeat someone. Here’s a news flash: Chris Smith will win by 12%!

  6. I know said at 4:53 pm on September 16th, 2018:

seriously Rob, get over yourself. Stop making these people SICK that an actual audio tape says what it does. We don’t need facts here. We need Chris Smith to win by double digits.

Commercials,Chris! An admirable record needs to be shown to the voters. Too bad all Phoney Palloney has is his proverbial green wave lawn signs and street money.. and, sadder that it’s all he needs there….
