Former Middletown Cop Arrested For Child Sex Trafficking

A retired Middletown Police Officer was arrested in Hazlet on Wednesday, April 11, following an April 5 federal indictment for Sex Trafficking of a Child, Attempted Sex Trafficking of a Child and Attempted Enticement.

James J. Keenan, 47, formerly of Hazlet and currently a resident of Vancouver, WA, was indicted by a Portland, Oregon federal grand jury following a month long investigation by detectives of Beaverton, Oregon Police Department and the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force.

His alleged victim is a Beaverton female child, according to Officer Jeremy Shaw, spokesman for the Beaverton PD.  Officer Shaw confirmed that Keenan is a former Middletown Police Officer.

Keenan joined the Middletown PD in 1990, two years after he graduated from Middletown High School North, according to his LinkedIn profile. He retired in 2016, according to Data Universe, with an annual pension of $79,876.

Keenan moved to Vancouver in 2017, He still owns a home on W. Susan Street in Hazlet, according to Monmouth County records.

Officer Shaw said that the investigation is ongoing and that the victim is being provided services to assist her recovery process.

Keenan is being transported to Oregon where he will be held in the custody of the Multnoma County Jail pending his legal proceedings, Shaw said.

UPDATE:

Keenan is in the custody of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, according to Vinelink. He has a bond hearing in federal court, Trenton, at 2 p.m. on Monday April 16.

    The last paragraph that Art wrote above is not accurate. James Keenan is not, as I write these words, being transported to Oregon.

    According to VineLink.com, James Keenan is currently being held in the Monmouth County Jail.

    According to Pacer.gov, James Keenan will have a bail hearing here in New Jersey on April 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM before a US District Court judge.
